Gwelfor is part of SBUHB Health Board's Rehabiliation and Recovery Directorate . It is a high-dependency mental health rehabilitation unit for males aged 18 and over. The overall aim of the service is to enable people with long-term mental health difficulties to acquire skills to enable them to live as independently as possible within their local community, we are currently looking at appointing an enthusiastic and motivated individual with a full driving licence to become part of this team.
Rehabilitation services in SBUHB are based on the premise of recovery. Recovery is a process that enables people to build their resilience and to regain a sense of control over their life. The process of recovery calls for optimism and commitment from all concerned and is profoundly influenced by people's expectations and attitudes. There is a strong link between the recovery process and social inclusion. A key role for Gwelfor is to support people to regain their place in the communities where they live and take part in mainstream activities and opportunities which aims to maximise independence and quality of life.
Main duties of the job
We recognise that skill development is most effective when the environment is adapted to the support needs of the individual. As such, Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) is a significant part of the Gwelfor philosophy. PBS is a values-based framework that considers the person and his circumstances as a whole. PBS has been shown to reduce the likelihood of behaviours that challenge by creating physical and social environments that are supportive and capable of meeting people's needs. PBS is both proactive and preventative and aims to teach people new skills to enhance opportunities for independent, interesting and meaningful lives. Within in the rehabilitation and recovery service the use of safe wards are utilised. Therefore, the implementation of these tools will be a key element of a band 5 mental health nurses role. The role will also include spending 1:1 time with residents but also facilitating therapeutic groups when needed.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply
