As the Youth Clinical Lead you will be forefront in the development of the Early Intervention in psychosis (EI) provision for service users aged between 14 and 25 years, supporting and supervising the delivery of an age appropriate service.

You will work with colleagues in Children and adolescent mental health services (CAMHs) and EI where shared care exists or where transition to adult services is required in order to optimise the experience of young people and their families.

You will also undertake the deputy management role for the team on a day to day basis and across county as required. This will be in support of the on-going development of the multi-professional countywide Early Intervention commissioned service. The post holder will be expected to manage a group of staff, with the aim of providing a high quality service to meet the needs of people experiencing a first episode of psychosis, and their carers. In addition you will hold a small caseload of service users.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will support all aspects of high quality service design, delivery & improvement both local and national standards appropriate to the health and social care setting. The post holder will provide specialist advice to Adult Mental Health Services and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) on local and national developments within Early Intervention in Psychosis.

One post will primarily cover the south of the county (Luton, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard) and the other in the north and central parts of the county (Central Beds and Bedford Borough). It is a necessity to hold a full driving licence with access to a car for business purpose.

  • Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
    • oEducated to degree level or equivalent experience
    • oRegistered with a professional clinical, social work body (e.g. HCPC/NMC)
    • oEvidence of continued professional development in Psychosocial Interventions.
    Desirable
    • oManagement qualification/training or equivalent experience
    • oPost qualifying diploma in psycho- Social Intervention
    • oFamily intervention/BFT
    • oCAARMS assessor
    Experience Essential
    • oMinimum 2 years experience at Band 6 or above
    • oAppropriate post qualifying community care coordination experience.
    • oExperience of working with individuals experiencing psychosis and their families/carers
    • oExperience of working with young people in a child and adolescent mental health setting
    • oExperience in the Clinical and Management Supervision of others including annual appraisal.
    • oExperience in case management
    Desirable
    • oExperience of developing policies and local protocols in practice
    • oExperience in developing projects and quality improvement.
    Knowledge and Skills Essential
    • oDemonstrate knowledge and application of a range of Psycho-social interventions
    • oThe ability to provide a needs led assessment appropriate to the approach of EIPS
    • oMental health practice skills and knowledge applicable in a community setting
    • oAbility to care coordinate, manage, deliver and evaluate an evidence based psycho-social support package, within the CPA
    • oGood report writing skills; the ability to record complex case notes accurately
    • oDemonstrable clinical risk assessment and management skills
    • oAbility to manage a range of professional staff and function as a team member
    Desirable
    • oExperience in delivering Behaviour Family therapy or other recognised Family Intervention
    • oExperience in conducting CAARMs assessments or other psychosis specific assessment tools
    • oCarers assessments and interventions
