Would you like the opportunity to join an innovative, growing Occupational Therapy Service in an outstanding Trust? The Occupational Therapy service within Bedfordshire and Luton Mental Health and Wellbeing services are looking to recruit a Band 6 OT to work within the Luton CMHTs, at Charter House, Luton LU1 2PJ.

We are looking for dynamic and motivated individuals with a strong professional identity to work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team and to provide effective and valued Occupational Therapy to our service users.

You will offer specialist occupational therapy interventions utilising the Model of Human Occupation. You will provide a range of Occupational Therapy interventions and within the CMHTs you will have the opportunity to implement group based programmes with other OT colleagues. Occupational Therapy has a strong identity within the directorate and is highly valued within the MDT.

Regular managerial and professional supervision will be provided and you will have bimonthly opportunities to participate in the services OT CPD events and contribute towards service development. Professional development and training are actively encouraged through the appraisal process. Main duties of the job

o To provide high quality evidence based and person-centered Occupational Therapy service to adults with mental health problems living in the community.

o To provide expert advice to the Community Mental Health Team on Occupational Therapy issues and to raise the profile of Occupational Therapy approaches to care within the Team.

o To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, to assess and treat people with mental health support needs and their carers.

o To be responsible, where locally agreed, for the care coordination of an appropriate caseload that reflects the need for specialist O.T skills. This may include setting up social care packages and provision of clinical supervision as required.

o To manage difficult clinical situations and advise occupational therapy colleagues on working with Service Users with emotional and behavioural needs. The post holder may initiate group activities within the community as necessary.

o To work in collaboration with the Head OT in the development of clinical and professional practice and support the implementation of research, evidence based practice, quality standards and audit within the OT service / MDT.

o The post holder will provide leadership, advice and support and clinical supervision to the OT team as required.

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy
  • State Registration
  • UK Driving license with access to a car

  • Applied social, health and medical sciences required for the practice of Occupational Therapy including psychology, anatomy, physiology and sociology
  • Applied psychological perspectives relevant to OT in mental health including behavioural, cognitive, psychoanalytic and humanistic perspectives
  • The impact of mental health difficulties upon occupational functioning (self-care, productivity and leisure) and performance components (i.e. inter and intra personal, cognitive, physical)
  • The theory and practice of occupational therapy including occupational science and holistic models of OT practice
  • Clinical skills in order to carry out OT interventions (e.g. psychotherapeutic, interactive and activity based interventions, cognitive behavioural interventions, psychosocial and psycho-educational interventions )
  • Theoretical and working knowledge of holistic models of OT practice and skills in group work, teaching and counselling.
  • Current legislation and National Guidelines and their application and be able to impart this to others
