Salus Ward is a newly developed 16 bedded mixed gender acute mental health ward or working age adults. It has been carefully designed to maximise the use of the space and light to create an open, safe and welcoming environment.

Salus Ward will join Haytor Ward as co-located within the South Devon and Torbay Mental Health Centre within the Torbay General Hospital site. This mental health centre incorporates that older adults inpatient ward, outpatient services and Home Treatment Team base.

We encourage you to learn, develop and grow. for newly qualified staff we have a well-established perceptorship programme which links into our wider multidisciplinary CPD programme. Those looking to gain further experience will be supported in maintaining professional links, through involvement in regular profession-specific CPD opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity for both newly qualified staff who would still receive our supportive and excellent preceptorship programme, and those staff that have been qualified for a period of time but would like to expand their experience.

In order to support you we offer a robust supervision framework and have clear clinical and leadership development programmes. As well as a range of Continuing Professional Development opportunities from one day workshops to fully accredited courses, we provide an extensive Preceptorship Programme for newly qualified staff which includes six study days covering a range of topics and a comprehensive Preceptorship Handbook to support development in practice.

Staff are encouraged and supported to use quality improvement methodology to help improve on the services we offer. The Trust Quality improvement Academy provides access to expert advice and support in your work area.

We also have a Nursing forum for all nursing staff, which provides an opportunity to meet as a profession throughout the year and engages the wider nursing group in the development and implementation of the Nursing Strategy as well as updating on national nursing news.

This is also an exciting time to be joining our organisation as we are currently undertaking reviews of our care pathways, smarter ways of working, including enhanced IT equipment and mobile working, all of which will enhance peoples experiences of accessing and using our services and focussing on the quality of care provision.

The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, commitment to working flexibly, participating in the internal 24 hours, 7 day a week rota to meet the needs of people who use our services, be able to

Your base will be Salus Ward, Torbay Hospital, however under the current COVID-19 conditions this may be subject to alternative arrangements/change for example home working.
