We are looking to recruit a permanent full time Band 7 Clinical Psychologist to work alongside an existing Consultant Clinical Psychologist. The vacancy is open to either a newly qualified , an experienced Psychologist or someone due to qualify later this year.

This post offers an exciting opportunity within the Scarborough Area. The SICT is a multidisciplinary health team based at The Ellis Centre, Scarborough and offers specialist health services to adults with Mental health needs who live within the locality, the team also supports service users families, and carers and works closely with statutory agencies and others who provide services to people with Mental health difficulties.

Applicants should ideally have experience in working within Mental health Services and show strong patient-centred values. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent mental health care and evidence-based interventions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a key role in providing both psychological assessments and psychological therapy, as well as consultative and advisory services in relation to adults with Mental health needs , their families and carers, according to identified clinical need.

In addition to direct clinical work, providing consultation and where necessary clinical supervision to other team members regarding patients is an important element of the role.

The Service is keen to develop close links with all other psychology specialisms across the Trust. There are also strong links to the localDoctoral Programmes in Clinical Psychology at Teesside and Hull Universities and the Doctoral Programme in Counselling Psychology at York St John University. There are excellent opportunities for peer support/ supervision, CPD, teaching/ training, research, and audit.

We are happy to discuss flexible working, and teleworking from home where appropriate, are very much supported if wanted by the post holder. We are also very keen to support practitioners obtain further professional training if required (e.g. EMDR; Flash EMDR; CAT; PBS; Systemic Family Therapy, etcetera).

The post holder will be expected to undertake the key elements of the job description as outlined below

Accountable for own professional practice in the delivery of specialist psychological care to clients with complex mental health conditions or learning disabilities which may include challenging behaviours.To be compassionate in meeting the needs of clients, their carers and families.To provide advice, guidance and clinical supervision to less experienced colleagues within the designated psychology service and to other members of the multidisciplinary team.To undertake formal research as an integral part of the job.To be pro-active in continual service improvement within own area.

Formulates plans for specialist psychological therapy and/or management of clients mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.

Implements a range of specialist psychological therapies for individual clients, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.

Evaluates therapy options and makes decisions about treatment.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
Desirable
  • Registration with BPS
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience Essential
  • Trained or working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings.
  • Has exercised clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care within the context of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
  • Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies
Knowledge / Skills Essential
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
