The Intensive Support Team (IST) works across Bedfordshire & Luton supporting people with a learning disability during a crisis. We are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic nurse, who have experience of working with people with learning disabilities and/or mental health. You must demonstrate the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team, supporting colleagues in delivering a high quality service for people on the community caseload and an inpatient setting.
Main duties of the job
IST provides a 24-hour crisis service to adults with a learning disability whose mental health has relapsed, if there is a change in behaviour that is putting themselves or others at risk and/or the individual is at risk of admission to an acute mental health ward.
IST supports people in their own homes in the Bedfordshire and Luton community, the intention is for the MDT to support the individual through the crisis, to maintain and improve their quality of life by identifying and addressing issues related to mental wellbeing, communication, sensory integration difficulties and the function of a particular behaviour.

Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
- Registered Nurse - Learning Disabilities/Mental Health (RNLD/RNMH) or equivalent
- A post-registration specialist qualification to at least degree level in nursing or related subject
- Evidence of continuing professional, clinical and educational development
- Teaching qualification for Student Nurses (i.e. ENB 998 or equivalent)
- A full understanding of national and local health priorities/policies/drivers and their application to clinical practice, service and organisations e.g. Valuing People Now, Equality Act, No Health without Mental Health.
- Understanding of clinical governance issues
- Awareness of organisational culture
- Substantial post basic experience
- Experience of Band 5 or above
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Knowledge and experience of collaborative working
- Experience of setting up health education/health promotion initiatives
- Experience in implementing service improvement projects
- Proven work experience in assessing needs and managing a clinical caseload
- Experience of participating in research or clinical audit activity
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills at all levels
- Experience of providing training and teaching
- Experienced in the area of presentations
- IT/computer literate
- Experience in conducting research and clinical audit
