The department is supported by designated Practice Development Nurses and a dynamic team of Clinical Practitioners who will support you in developing your knowledge and skills including triage, EPALS, cannulation & phlebotomy, plastering and wound care.

We have recently opened our new urgent and emergency treatment centre, which has included an exciting opportunity to co-locate with our paediatric assessment unit.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty.Working under the direction of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse the post holder will Be responsible for the delivery a high standard of individualised care for all patients.Ensure that care is appropriately planned, implemented and evaluatedWork with minimal supervision and take responsibility for and overseeing the care of paediatric patients who attend the Emergency DepartmentManage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision and support to junior members of staffSupport the Senior Sister/ Matron to monitor the safety and quality of care ensuring the provision of safe, quality care and treatment for patients which delivers the best clinical outcomes and patient experience

Job description

Job responsibilities

Be responsible for the delivery a high standard of individualised care for all paediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department

Demonstrates competent clinical practice . Acts a clinical expert in the care of any child who presents to the Emergency Department

Manage complex clinical situations, providing guidance, supervision and support to junior members of staff in the Emergency Department.

To confidently delegate tasks and activities to a range of team members in relation to patient care

To promote a positive image of Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust at all times.

To work cohesively with all members of the Emergency Department team inensuring that the very best service to patients and their families is provided at all times.

Maintain a personal, professional profile, identifying role and skill developments in line with the Scope of Professional Practice

Assist the senior sister by adhering to the procedures for the activation of the nurse bank/alteration of nurse duty rotas highlighting areas when paediatric nursing cover is compromised.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • RSCN or RN (Child) - duel qualification would be advantageous
  • Accredited teaching course
  • EPLS / APLS provider


Desirable

  • HDU / assessment course desirable


EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Significant experience at band 5 level.


Desirable

  • A competent paediatric nurse with current assessment / management skills.


SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • Must be able to perform cannulation/ phlebotomy/ administration of intravenous drugs
  • Must have sound knowledge of Emergency nursing/ Acute nursing/ clinical quality indicators
  • Must demonstrate good understanding of professional responsibilities and patient experience initiatives
