This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of psychological pathways in a newly expanded psychological provision embedded in a diverse perinatal MDT. The post holder will have the opportunity to provide evidence based psychological treatment to mothers, babies and their families with supervision from experienced psychological practitioners. We are looking for a highly motivated Clinical Psychologist, previous experience of working in a perinatal mental health service is desirable but not essential, although applicants will need to demonstrate clear passion and enthusiasm for delivering person centred and compassionate care. This is an expanding provision with growth to deliver the NHS long-term plan, specifically in relation to psychological interventions. The post holder will have opportunity to shape the future of perinatal mental health care. This is a fantastic and supportive development opportunity, with specialist support, training, and CPD opportunities. The role will involve working closely with the MDT to develop psychological formulations and provide psychological support within a trauma Informed framework. The team works closely with Maternity, Health Visiting, IAPT, Mother and Baby units, and many other services. The team has good links with local and national networks and providers to promote best practice and ongoing research and developments.
Main duties of the job

To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology/psychological therapy service to service users of the regional Perinatal Service. To provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering highly specialised advice and consultation on service users' psychological care to psychologist/therapist colleagues, non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers. In common with all Clinical Psychologists/Psychological Therapists, to receive regular clinical supervision in accordance with good practice.

To provide clinical supervision to less experienced psychologists/therapists, counsellors, assistant(s), trainee(s) or other professionals. The postholder is responsible for the allocation of clinical work within their own team to less experienced psychologists/therapists, counsellors, assistant(s), trainee(s) or other professionals.

To take sole professional responsibility and exercise autonomous professional and clinical judgement within the overall framework of Trust, HCPC, BPS, or BABCP policies/guidelines/standards. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team and service.

Person Specification Knowledge and skills Essential
  • oSkills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • oWell-developed, high-level skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to service users, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • oSkills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • oDoctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology, including use of computerised statistical packages (eg SPSS)
  • oEvidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC/BABCP.
Desirable
  • oKnowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific complex groups e.g., Perinatal mental health.
  • oHigh level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.
  • oKnowledge of relevant legislation
training and qualifications Essential
  • oPost-graduate, doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the HCPC and/or BPS
  • oRegistration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist
  • oFormal training in supervision of other psychologists
Desirable
  • oPre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology/psychological therapy.
  • oAdditional, post-qualification short courses.
  • oPerinatal mental health experience
Experience Essential
  • oSignificant experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of service users across a range of care settings.
  • oAbility to work with service users presenting with complex psychological difficulties. Ability to work with the potential of individuals or their carers becoming abusive and aggressive
  • oExperience of working with a wide variety of service user groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • oEvidence of being able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary settings and teams
  • oDemonstrates further training/experience normally through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist.
