Band 5 permanent infrastructure technician 37.5 hours per week

An opportunity has arisen to recruit an Infrastructure Technician to support our digital network infrastructure services in West, North and East Cumbria, and for the wider Digital Healthcare Service across West, North and East Cumbria.

Digital Healthcare provides a range of services to the Trust and its Partners across Cumbria and the North East. This includes Information Governance, Digital Programmes, and Operational Services including Cyber Security, End User Devices, Service Desk, Systems, and Network Infrastructure.

The Networks & Infrastructure function is comprised of Infrastructure Technicians and Engineers, all of whom report to the Networks & Infrastructure Manager. We also have an Infrastructure and Systems Technical Specialist that supports both the Systems and Network Infrastructure functions.

The experienced technicians, engineers and specialists that form the Networks & Infrastructure function, are always willing to pass on their local and technical knowledge, providing an excellent support mechanism for new team members.

Digital Healthcare also operates an Out of Hours 24/7 On-Call service, which the successful candidate is expected to take part in when appropriate to do so. The post base is flexible.

Main duties of the job

This role delivers our Business As Usual services, including maintenance tasks across all types of Network Infrastructure, such as our Cisco-based LANs and WANs, Wireless Networks, and Unified Communications Systems such as Telephony Services.

In addition, you are responsible for managing Incident and Problem tickets to ITIL-standards, from analysis and investigation, through to resolution.

Incident Management is based on a rota structure with other team members. It is predominantly desk-based, and requires a degree of flexibility to support other IT operational services as required.

Also, the role provides support for the Infrastructure Engineers and Technical Specialist, including the implementation of new technologies such as Software Defined Networking and Cisco ISE, upgrading existing technologies, such as Network Switches, and implementing Service Improvement initiatives.

Person Specification



  • GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade 5 (or equivalent) or above, including Maths and English
  • Degree level education (or equivalent) in an IT discipline or equivalent


  • Membership of relevant Professional Body
  • Cisco Certification to CCNA level or above
  • ITIL Foundation Certificate
  • PRINCE2 Foundation



  • Recent, significant experience in a relevant IT support role
  • Troubleshooting and resolving IT Network hardware and software issues
  • IT Network infrastructure tools and systems
  • Cisco or equivalent technology covering WAN's, LAN's and WLAN's
