A very exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative, forward thinking, experienced and passionate Dietitian to support the development and delivery of our Specialist Weight Management Service for Children and Young People.

The Specialist Weight Management service is a new team that has developed an accessible, family centred and culturally appropriate Specialist Children's weight management service to support families in the Central Locality of Bradford.

The service aims to address the rising prevalence of severely obese children in Central Bradford as part of the broader Reducing Inequalities in Communities Programme. The service will work with families with a child up to the age of 17 with a BMI > = 99.6th centile (Severely Obese) or a BMI > =98th - 99.6th centile with a co-morbidity or additional risk factor assessed on a case by case basis. Learning and outcomes from this service model will add to the evolving evidence base on supporting children and families living with obesity.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the programme lead to support a team of five dietetic support workers to facilitate long-term effective support to children and their families to enable them to meet their goals. You will also be expected to hold your own case load of children. You will need clinical expertise, behavioural change skills and understanding of the culturally diverse nature of the central Bradford population. Experience of service development and evaluation, implementation of pathways and integration with a multiagency network would be beneficial.

The service will be based in a community venue you will be required to work within patients' homes and across a range of community locations. Applicants must be HCPC registered dietitians, who have obtained relevant clinical dietetic experience, and who are car drivers with access to a car.

This post will be supported by the Principal Dietitian (Children's Services and Public Health) and be part of a large and supportive Paediatric Dietetic Team at BTHFT. We are committed to supporting ongoing personal and professional development and offer training and development opportunities. We are active trainers for B and C placement student dietitians.

Person Specification



  • Relevant post registration experience working as a qualified dietitian
  • Experience of dietetic management of adults/children with a range of conditions


  • Teaching and training experience
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Experience of community/voluntary groups (not necessarily in dietetic capacity)
  • Experience of audit and evaluation of work



  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Competent in Core Areas of Dietetic Practice.
  • Competent in Core Areas of Dietetic Practice.


  • Any Asian language



  • Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics/Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics Registered Dietitian


  • Registered for Advanced Diploma in Dietetics, or other relevant post graduate qualification
  • Teaching qualification
