We are seeking an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist with expertise and knowledge of Blood Transfusion to be part of our team based at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow Essex.

You will be using your knowledge gained from working in Blood Transfusion and Haematology laboratories to utilise the latest laboratory instrumentation in analysis and interpretation of blood samples in accordance with agreed protocols and standard operational procedures.

You will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of professional expertise and quality management system in the department

Main duties of the job

As a Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist the post holder will participate in the delivery of a diagnostic service, by preparing, processing and performing complex diagnostic investigations in accordance with agreed protocols and standard operational procedures. The post holder will be expected to have knowledge and skills gained through a HCPC recognised BSc Hons. degree or equivalent and to have the specialist experience necessary to work unsupervised in all aspects of Haematology laboratory practice. This will be evidenced by participation in relevant CPD program and rotating through all areas.

The post involves training in Haematology and Coagulation where applicable to cover late shifts in both Haematology and Transfusion.

Person Specification



  • Specialist portfolio or equivalent or significant post registration experience
  • Appropriate BSc degree (as recognised by the IBMS)
  • Continual professional development and maintenance of up to date knowledge of new technologies and methodologies is required.



  • Experience in a diagnostic laboratory
  • Know when to seek advice from senior members of staff
