This is a great opportunity for an experienced individual with a working knowledge of NHS research governance systems and strong administrative skills who is self-sufficient and a valuable team member. You will work as be part of a team that facilitates the management and co-ordination of contract commercial research and play a key role in the expansion of commercial research activity concentrating on speed of setup and an efficient and effective contract review process. Being one of only five NIHR Patient Recruitment Centres dedicated to late-phase commercial research, NIHRPRC: Bradford offers rapid set-up of late-phase commercial research, standardised contracting and delivery approaches with dedicated staff and facilities. The NIHR PRCs increase the NHS's capacity to deliver research, enabling significant growth and opportunities for patients to benefit from early access to innovative treatments.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will also contribute to the successful delivery of the wider Research Management & Support Office service this may involve supporting the team in local feasibility discussions with research teams, processing site submissions, circulating amendment documentation and keeping the EDGE system up-to-date, all of which will require accurate record keeping and effective communication.

Person Specification



  • BTEC Level 3 or GNVQ Level 3 or A levels in relevant discipline or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline or relevant experience



  • Experience of working in a research environment (NHS, University or Industry)
  • Previous relevant experience of working in an office environment at a senior level
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrates past experience of team working
  • Experience of working within a research governance role


  • Experience of undertaking research costing
  • Experience of managing a group of staff or a team



  • Be able to manage and prioritise own workload effectively on a day to day basis
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Able to maintain complete and accurate records systems
  • To train new and existing staff on the job
  • Be proactive and work methodically and have a good eye for details
  • Able to deal with unexpected problems and use initiative to solve these
  • Ability to suggest improvements in working practice to enable better working practice



  • Competent level of computer literacy, word, excel
  • Good knowledge of commercial organisations within research
  • Good knowledge of research governance and the processes involved with gaining NHS approval


  • Understanding of the NIHR iCT and costing methodology
