Hull University Teaching Hospitals Trust and Kingston upon Hull City Council operate a joint mortuary service providing mortuary and post-mortem facilities for the county of East Yorkshire. The service runs across two sites at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital.
The mortuary & bereavement service team continually strives to provide excellent service. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, enthusiastic Senior technician / supervisor to join our team. You will be experienced in all areas of mortuary work and be dedicated to the continual development of staff and service improvement - including a CT post Mortem service.
The Mortuary Service undertakes up to 1700 Post mortems per annum including post mortems for other coronial districts when required.
Other activities include, Tissue donations, research harvests, and forensic post mortems.
You must hold both the certificate and Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or minimal Level 3 diploma and be able to demonstrate experience of working at a senior level within the mortuary.
You will be expected to discharge technical duties either working alone or as part of a small team and will help to ensure a 24-hour mortuary service is maintained via an on-call system, involving working unsociable hours.
Please note that this advertised vacancy does not meet the UKVI eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa and therefore HUTH would not be able to issue a Certificate of Sponsorship for this role
Main duties of the job
You will assist in the delivery of day to day operation of the service, ensuring the efficient/effective use of staff and resources, including planning and organising of work rota and liaising with the police, Scientific Aids Department Coroner's Office and the pathologist.
You will deputise for the Service Manager/Deputy Manager, when required and be expected to perform departmental audits and risk assessments.
You will perform and supervise a range of technical/scientific procedures to aid pathologists/clinicians to diagnose a cause of death, identify outstanding clinical issues and the effects of treatment, undertaken in the post-mortem rooms .
This work is variable and unpredictable, you must be prepared to work flexibly and under pressure.
You will uphold the professional standards and provide evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) and have experience of the compliance with standards as required by the Human Tissue Authority (HTA), and other relevant professional and legislative bodies.
You will be involved in the training and development of staff, particularly trainees and will provide technical advice to other, including other mortuary staff, the Coroner, police, funeral profession and bereaved families.
