Are you passionate about working with adults with eating disorders and about social work? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you, to work part time as a social worker in the adult eating disorders service.

We are seeking an experienced social worker, who is enthusiastic and committed to working with clients who experience severe eating disorders (some of whom may be difficult to engage).

Main duties of the job

The role will require good organisation and time-management skills, creative thinking/problem solving, as well as teamwork and passion. The postholder will have the ability to work with a high level of autonomy and manage their own workload, as well as offer supervision to other social workers. They will have experience of working with adults with mental health diagnoses, ideally eating disorders.

The role will also require good knowledge of mental health and social care legislation, the ability to lead on Care Act assessments and referrals, safeguarding issues within the team, and liaison with adult and children social care services in the 5 London boroughs that our Trust covers, as well as with external providers within the National inpatient service. The post holder will have experience of liaising with multiple agencies in order to arrange aftercare and specialist placements.

Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our �150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Job responsibilities

Clinical and Managerial:

To provide leadership for safeguarding issues and liaising with the clients relevant local safeguarding teams as necessary.

To lead on the MCA 2005, the MHA 1983 and the Care Act 2014 as appropriate to client needs.

To be involved in providing assessment, treatment, consultation and supervision. Detailed assessments of clients and providing support and advice on complex cases.

Taking responsibility for the social care and social work elements of practice and innovations for the Eating Disorders service.

To liaise clearly and collaboratively with the services multi-disciplinary team and with external teams and providers as required.

To join colleagues in assessment and planning meetings both for the inpatient services and community services.

To lead on and advise on socio-therapeutic activities as required, including group work.

Service Development:

To be responsible for identifying desirable service developments in accordance with needs of the service users and their carers.

To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of EDS services operational policies and services, as directed, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.

To lead on the development and implementation of social care related policies and services.

To contribute towards research initiatives and evidence-based practice.

To participate in managing systems for evaluating the quality of service provided.

To maintain accurate, reliable clinical records that are contemporaneous.

Teaching, Training and Supervision:

To receive relevant professional and managerial supervision from Deputy Head of Social Work and Team manager, as relevant.

To gain additional experiences and skills through courses and training relevant to the profession and the service as agreed in PADR and in accordance with the Trust Training and Development process and procedures.

To be able to supervise student social workers or work towards a qualification to supervise student social workers in practice.

To provide advice, consultation and training to staff working with the client group across a range of agencies and settings.

Research and Service Evaluation:

To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.

To undertake appropriate research and provide advice to other staff undertaking research.

Other/General:

To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice.

To contribute to and commit to undertaking an annual professional development review (PADR).

To undertake personal and professional development as identified in the Personal Development Plan (PDP) as required by the service.

To liaise and maintain links with relevant outside agencies, local and voluntary and statutory bodies.

Legal literacy, to keep informed of new legislation, national and local policy and procedures.

To attend and participate in multidisciplinary staff meetings, supervision groups, staff reflection meetings, educational meetings and Social Work Forum/annual conference.

To act as a resource to staff on social care issues.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oRecognised UK social work qualification e.g. Social Work Degree, CQSW, CSS or Dip SW or recognised international equivalent and current eligibility for registration with Social work England.
  • oPost qualifying training (whether gained formally and accredited or through evidenced on-the-job training) in relevant areas of social work and/or mental health
  • oEvidence of continuing professional and personal development


Desirable

  • oFurther relevant training e.g. group work, family therapy
  • oApproved Social Worker/AMHP or BIA


Experience

Essential

  • oPost qualifying experience as a social worker.
  • oExperience of working autonomously within a multi-disciplinary environment
  • oExperience of working with people with complex mental health needs.


Desirable

  • oExperience of working in an inpatient mental health setting
  • oExperience of working with service users who have eating disorders
  • oExperience of working with service users.
  • oExperience of working with adults with substance misuse or dual diagnosis
  • oDemonstrate experience or skills to develop a positive leadership for social work profession in a MDT setting, as well as across wider Trust
