Are you an enthusiastic, motivated and committed pharmacist? If so we would like you to join our mental health pharmacy team. You will need to have the skills to be able to work within the wider multi-disciplinary team of nurses and doctors and other allied healthcare professionals and managers. You will want to develop and improve the reliability and quality of our clinical pharmacy service. You will need to have specific experience working with pharmacy teams and patients within the mental health setting. You will want to reach targets set by the Trust and by the pharmacy service. You must be self- motivated and able to motivate others.

Main duties of the job

You will support on the provision of pharmacy services in Newham. You will also provide support to the medicines management technicians and other pharmacists, provide operational support where required, provide a clinical pharmacy service to inpatient wards and work with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective service to mental health patients in our directorate. You will have a particular role in implementing and monitoring the clinical pharmacy standards and working closely with the clinical lead pharmacist to identify service gaps. You will be responsible for areas of service and line management of pharmacists and technicians. You will also be involved in working with the other lead pharmacists in undertaking and developing audits and projects to evaluate and improve services alongside pharmacy and trust priorities and objectives.

About us

Our dynamic and creative ELFT pharmacy team provides pharmacy services to a wide range of community and inpatient service users in Luton and Bedfordshire, City and Hackney, Newham and Tower Hamlets. This includes children and young people to adults of working age, older adults, and forensic patients. We provide a broad range of clinical pharmacy services to our inpatient wards and community mental health services.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • oVocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy (4 years or equivalent)
  • oPre-registration training
  • oPost registration training relevant to hospital pharmacy
  • oMember of the General Pharmaceutical Council and/or Royal Pharmaceutical Society
  • oPost graduate certificate in Clinical Pharmacy


Desirable

  • oWorking towards higher Degree/Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy
  • oSuccessful completion of short courses to the equivalent of a post graduate certificate
  • oExperience in clinical pharmacy in a mental health setting
  • oExperience in clinical pharmacy of working with older people
  • oPsychiatry qualification (or willing to work towards this)
  • oExperience in clinical pharmacy in a mental health setting


Experience

Essential

  • oDemonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate medicine related information to mental health patients, carers and clinical staff
  • oPrevious evaluated experience of mentorship and training skills
  • oTo have undertaken clinical audit
  • oTraining and education


Desirable

  • oPrevious experience in providing clinical mental health services.
  • oStaff management experience
  • oMonitoring and advising on drug expenditure
