The role of User and Carer Research & Development Manager is to work in partnership with service users and carers, NHS staff, universities, NIHR partners, voluntary organisations, and other stakeholders to strengthen service user and carer involvement in research activities across the Trust and support collaborative research partnerships and initiatives.
Our aim is to foster a culture in which research and innovation are rooted in routine clinical practice. Our strategic intent is underpinned by an environment where patient and public involvement (PPI) and engagement (PPE) are embedded in relevant research activity in a way that adds real value and impact which benefits our patients.
The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of the PPI R& D programme which includes providing a support service for researchers, service users and carers, promoting PPI and research, working with local communities and monitoring and evaluating PPI activities.
The post holder will be based within the R& D Department, at Douglas House, Cambridge with options to work from other locations.
Main duties of the job
Support researchers by providing PPI expert advice and coordinating service user and carer research advisory panels to assist the development of research funding applications and research proposals. This will also include organising and facilitating meetings of mixed lay and expert representation.
Work with R& D colleagues to coordinate high quality PPI review of research projects sponsored and supported by CPFT.
Support the Service User and Carer Research Group, a group of people with lived experience of mental health issues and dementia, interested in getting involved in CPFT research. This will include advertising involvement opportunities and providing appropriate training, advice and mentoring.
Coordinate recruitment of service users and carers to be actively involved in R& D activities. This will include developing appropriate and informative advertisements, role descriptions and agreements for people wanting to be involved in research.
Develop and deliver PPI training for researchers, service users and carers and co-ordinate events that support the PPI R& D programme.
Deliver talks about the role of PPI in research as required by the Department and at the request of researchers.
Develop links with the local community to promote PPI in research and foster engagement of a diverse and wider community in CPFT research activities.

Collate information to monitor and understand involvement practices and their impact through the life course of research projects and include information in the R& D annual report13. Keep abreast of developments in PPI including Government, regulatory and national funders expectations and requirements14. Provide expert advice and guidance to the Director of R& D and other senior figures around PPI in research which will influence discussions around CPFT research strategy and processes15. Contribute to the development of the PPI/PPE R& D strategy in line with national and CPFT strategies, and service users and carers needs16. Support the delivery of the R& D Strategy17. Collaborate and work with PPI leads across the healthcare and academic settings to develop and implement joint initiatives18. Attend the CPFT R& D Operations Meeting, CUHP PPI working group and provide regular reports and updates on the PPI/PPE activity19. Oversee and administer the PPI budget
