An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to play a pivotal role in delivering this new service, as well as planning, evaluating, and contributing to its development. We are looking for a newly qualified Clinical/Counselling Psychologist at Band 7 level, who is driven, passionate and excited to be part of a strategically important service provision, in line with our programme of Community Mental Health Transformation which is aiming to transform and enhance the way we deliver our mental health services.

The service will employ an innovative model to provide rehabilitative care to people with complex and severe mental health issues and the role will offer the opportunity to make a real difference to people's lives, including supporting them to engage with activities of daily living and to integrate with their local communities, allowing them to lead meaningful and more independent lives. The focus of the psychology role is to work with service users, families, networks, and the team to develop trauma-informed psychological/systemic formulations and interventions. Training in CBT will be offered. You will work alongside and be supervised by a Clinical Psychologist/ Systemic psychotherapist.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will:- have some desirable knowledge of working or understanding patients with complex mental health rehabilitative needs- be a registered Clinical/Counselling Psychologist- be able to empathise, be supportive and sensitive to the needs of others, and themselves- be passionate about supporting people to live fulfilling lives independently

The post holder will be a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in our new Community Rehabilitation Enhanced Support Team (CREST). As this is a brand-new initiative, the suitable candidate will support the Principal Psychologist to input into the development of the service, including feedinginto processes and procedures, and supporting with the recruitment of staff to the service.

On a day-to-day basis, the individual will support patients through a needs-led, client-centred approach and formulation to care. Each patient will have a bespoke care plan agreed at MDT.

This will include supporting patients with developing their skills and relationships to enable them to live healthy, fulfilling lives

Qualifications

Essential

• Post graduate doctoral qualification in clinical / counselling psychology (or equivalent)
• Registered and accredited with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
• Eligible for graduate membership of BPS (British Psychology Society) and for Chartered Clinical/Counselling Psychology status and membership of the Division of Clinical/Counselling Psychology as a result of training in models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology and at least two psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology

Desirable

• Clinical supervision training for psychology trainees
• Evidence of post-doctoral specialist training in at least two areas of psychological practice directly related to the clinical requirements and specialism of this post

Experience

Essential

• Experience of working in evidence-based ways with clients who have psychosis and other severe and complex mental health difficulties
• Experience of service evaluation, audit and research
• Experience of managing complex situations concerning safeguarding, risk management.
• Experience of working within services that operate the Care Programme Approach successfully and of working with complex caseloads
• Experience of services (and working as part of multi-disciplinary teams internal and external to the organisation) across a wide variety of patient groups, throughout the whole life course and with service users with cases of a high degree of complexity
• Experience of dealing with highly distressing or emotional circumstances such as serious mental illness, child and sexual abuse.

Desirable

• Will have experience of applying professional expertise in multidisciplinary teams /multi-agency environments.
• Experience of teaching and professional/clinical supervision, as well as experience of developing and leading on the delivery of training programmes and supervision
• Experience of working within Rehabilitation Services and/or with client groups in need of significant rehabilitation in the community

Skills and Competencies

Essential

• Ability to manage difficult situations with service users that have complex mental health conditions, challenging behaviours and possibly forensic histories, to manage a demanding and complex case load.
• Well-developed knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. complex psychosis, complex PTSD, dual diagnoses, forensic histories, people with additional disabilities such as neurodevelopmental disorders and other cognitive difficulties etc).
• Exceptional interpersonal and highly effective communication skills with the ability to support and engage patients, clinicians and other stakeholder groups in change, development and improvement.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
• Skills in providing supervision to clinicians with differing levels of experience and to other multi-disciplinary staff.
• Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
• Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours.
• Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
• Ability to comfortably and confidently cope well under pressure, with excellent time management skills and an ability to respond constructively to challenge or resistance.

• Exceptional IT skills and the ability to navigate around various systems and software packages (such as RiO outlook, databases, MS office and the internet)
