The post is to care for Tuberculosis and Non-Tuberculosis Mycobacterium patients as an Advanced Nurse working across the hospital and community, therefore, must have own transport.

The successful candidate will have to be self directed , although they work within the Respiratory Team based at Derriford Hospital, they will receive support within that team.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Main duties of the job

  • This post exists to provide highly specialised programmes of care to clients and their families with diagnosed or suspected Tuberculosis (TB), as well as clients with Non-Tuberculous Mycobacterial infections (NTM).
  • The post holder will work as a member of a specialist respiratory team contributing to the delivery of the respiratory nursing service and as a lead specialist in the Tuberculosis service.
  • The post holder will be expected to assess, plan and manage a case load of both socially and clinically complex patients. This will include initiating investigations and monitoring highly specialised drug regimens for the prevention, treatment and control of tuberculosis. Such cases require highly specialist and expert care.
  • The post holder will maintain accurate related records.
  • The post holder will act as a specialist resource to provide highly specialist advice, education and information in line with National guidelines and the UK Health Security Agency objectives, both locally and nationally.

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will undertake research and lead clinical audits in own highly specialist area and develops policies and procedures as required
  • The post holder will provide highly specialised nursing knowledge, skills and experience in the field of respiratory nursing practice, and act as a resource to advise, educate and support those involved in the care of people with respiratory disease, both in the primary and secondary care setting
  • The post holder will be required to work with both in-patients and out-patients and on occasions in the community. Works to also support other respiratory specialist nurses within the UHP NHS Trust.
  • The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other staff/students

Essential

  • oRegistered Nurse with current NMC registration
  • oSpecialist professional proven knowledge acquired through training/education to Degree/Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • oSpecialist professional proven knowledge acquired through training/education to Degree/Masters level or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • oTeaching and mentoring qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • o Demonstrable experience in Respiratory Medecine


Desirable

  • oIndependent Nurse Prescriber V300 (or willingness to undertake) oqualification/commitment to obtain qualification
  • o Advanced nurse practitioner qualification or equivalent

  • oEffective communication skills, demonstrating fluency, clarity and ability to engage at all levels
  • o Proven post graduate Nursing demonstrable experience
