Are you looking for a new challenge or change of speciality in your nursing career? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Chemotherapy unit at Barnsley as a staff nurse. The Chemotherapy unit at Barnsley is a 6 chaired unit that treats patients with Haematological and solid tumour malignancies.

As a team, we strive to ensure that patients receive high quality care and compassion, building relationships with the patient and their families during their difficult cancer journey, which could span from months to years.

This role will include the administration of systematic anticancer therapy treatment, bloods products and other treatments related to the specialities. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to not only work on the inpatient unit, but to work alongside the wider multidisciplinary team in both specialities. They will be involved in nurse led clinics which will help them develop their role, build their confidence and knowledge base around patient assessment and treatment.

Previous experience in the administration of chemotherapy is desirable but not essential as full training and support will be provided. Newly qualified nurses will be considered dependant on shortlisting and interview.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision.

The post holder will have responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

The post holder will promote clinical excellence through his/her own practice, participating in evidence based practice.

The post holder is expected to demonstrate to, and supervise, support and develop both qualified and unqualified staff including students.

The post holder will be expected to actively participate in ensuring the quality of service in the ward/department.

This will include:-
  • Participation in the setting of professional standards and the monitoring of performance of these standards.
  • Participating in quality and focus groups.
  • The efficient use of resources.
  • The implementation and evaluation of new quality initiatives.

In conjunction with colleagues, the post holder will be responsible for the physical environment of the workplace. This will include health and safety issues, security and the appropriate safe management of equipment and resources allocated to the area.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that clinical practice in the ward meets the standards set by the NMC, the Department of Health and the Trust, and that non-compliance with these standards is reported to the Ward Manager in accordance with the appropriate policies and procedures.
