About the team:

The Lewisham Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (LEIS) is looking for a highly enthusiastic and skilled Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist or CBT Psychotherapist with experience working with people with psychosis, to provide maternity leave cover. The successful applicant will share responsibility for the leadership of the provision of psychological therapies to individuals and families within LEIS with a full-time Senior Clinical Psychologist.

LEIS is a specialist multidisciplinary community mental health team set up under the guidelines from the National Service Framework for Mental Health (1999) and National Standards for Psychosis Services (2016). The team works with people aged 18-65 who are experiencing a first episode of psychosis. The team uses well-researched Early Intervention strategies and works intensively with service users and carers for up to three years, to promote engagement with the team and with a range of interventions to facilitate social inclusion and recovery.

As this is a fixed term post, we welcome applicants who would like to take up this post as a secondment, as well as those wanting a fixed term position. Those seeking secondments should speak to their line manager prior to submitting an application.

Main duties of the job

About the role:

You will be responsible for providing highly specialist psychological assessment, individual therapy (including CBTp), family interventions and group work. In addition, the role will include supervision of other qualified psychologists and psychological therapists and trainee and assistant psychologists, as well as consultation and teaching/training as required. As a senior clinician, you will also work in collaboration with the Team Leader, Consultant Psychiatrist and other Psychologists, to contribute to the team's vision, values, leadership and service development.

We are looking for an energetic and highly motivated Senior Clinical / Counselling Psychologist or CBT Therapist who has a genuine interest in Early Intervention in Psychosis, and the ability to work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary team. Psychological input is valued in the team, and considered an integral part of the services on offer to our service users and their families.

LEIS has good links with other Lewisham adult mental health services and the other three SLAM Early Intervention teams, therefore there are regular opportunities to link with clinical psychologists within and beyond other psychosis-related teams. You will be encouraged and supported to access CPD opportunities within the Trust.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Entry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent) that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration OR Postgraduate Diploma/Masters in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, with qualification accredited by the BABCP. (A/I)
• Completed training course in clinical supervision.
• Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist or BABCP, and evidence of continuing professional development as required.

Desirable

• Additional training in specialised psychological assessment and interventions for psychosis (CBTp, FIp)

Experience

Essential

• Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist under supervision in Early Intervention in Psychosis services, and of working with people who have experienced trauma and posttraumatic reactions
• Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in Early Intervention in Psychosis services.
• Experience of supervising assistant and trainee psychologists having completed the relevant training

Knowledge

Essential

• Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and interventions for psychosis
• Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment of first episode psychosis
• Advanced knowledge of psychological assessment and clinical psychometrics for psychosis.

Skills

Essential

• To deliver psychological therapy across cultural and other differences.
• To select and administer specialist psychological assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources.
• To communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with clients, carers and colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural
• To be skilled in the administration of psychometric and neuropsychological tests, including those that require complex manipulation of test materials.

Abilties

Essential

• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate.
• Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with people who engage in severe self-harming or aggressive behaviour.
