The Facilities and Estates Department provides a wide range of maintenance, operational and development services throughout the hospitals within the Trust.
We are looking for an enthusiastic pro-active person who is flexible in their approach to work, demonstrating good communication and organisational skills for this challenging role in a fast moving dynamic environment.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for a team of multi skilled Tradesmen organising day-to-day electrical & mechanical activities (PPM/defect repairs) and minor new works.
You will have a detailed knowledge and experience in the maintenance and upkeep of complex systems and equipment and in addition will possess excellent man management skills.

Job responsibilities
To manage and control the Electrical Engineering team and various external contractors employed by the Trust. When necessary to manage the Mechanical and Buildings maintenance teams and deputise for the Electrical, Mechanical or Building Estates Officers with full responsibility for day to day operational management and control. To be responsible for performance management issues, sickness absence management, disciplinary and grievance issues, one to ones and staff appraisals. To ensure satisfactory time keeping, and conduct of staff. Ensure staff records are kept relating to holiday and sickness. Checking of staff time sheets. To use the departments Computerised Maintenance Management system (CMMS) to schedule, plan and prioritise staff/department workloads. Using the CMMS to allocate resources (manpower and materials) in such a way that estates department service level agreements (SLAs) or key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved. To fulfil the role of an Electrical Authorised Person (High Voltage and Low Voltage) and in this role directly manage all issues related to electrical installations to ensure that the electrical systems and equipment are fit for use, also ensuring the safety of personnel who are using, or who are near any such HV or LV electrical equipment. To manage the routine day to day requests for Engineering and Building assistance. To ensure a fast and effective response to breakdowns in accordance with Trust requirements and the Estates department Service Level Agreements (SLAs). To be responsible for ensuring Planned Preventative Maintenance Systems are implemented. To provide technical advice and liaise with Estates Officers, Ward Sisters, Departmental Heads, Risk Management, users and clients at all levels. To liaise with Statutory Regulators, Consultants, Fire Brigade, Contractors and Company representatives external to the Trust. To establish and maintain quality systems to ensure work is carried out efficiently and effectively to current standards and codes of practice (including all relevant HTMs). To observe Statutory Health and Safety and other relevant requirements for a safe working environment, and to carry out Health and Safety Risk Assessments. To proactively plan, schedule, supervise and monitor the activities of estates department staff and ensure that the productivity and performance of these staff is maximised. To carry out any procurement, organisation or planning activities as may necessary to enable the estates department to carry out designated tasks Have a working understanding of HVAC systems, chillers, A/C, pumps, motors and heating, drainage, water systems, lifts Medical gas AP is desirable but not necessary To be prepared to respond to emergency work outside normal working hours, and to be included on the Estates On Call Rota. To be prepared to supervise work that may need to be carried out in periods that are outside of normal working hours. This will from time to time require you to work evenings, nights or weekends, in addition to, or as an alternative to your standard working hours. Assist in planning shut downs as necessary. Flexibility is therefore an essential requirement of the position. To take part in the recruitment of trade staff and to prepare Statutory, Mandatory and basic training plans for the Engineering and Building Estates team members. To product daily progress reports, write method statements, risk assessments, permits to work for Trust staff. To book in contractors on the Sky visitor contractor control system, reviewing submitted RAMS To undertake projects up to the value of �25,000. To ensure oversight and control of all projects in line with Trust Standards. To be responsible for many aspects of the Trusts Apprenticeship Training Scheme and to actively participate in the training of Apprentices.

Essential
- Recognised CITB/EITB Engineering Apprenticeship, and an HNC/NVQ Level 5 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering /Building Services Engineering
- An NVQ Level 3 or 4 or an equivalent qualification may be acceptable if a potential job applicant can demonstrate extended and adequate knowledge that has been gained through continuing professional development
- Qualified to the 18th Edition of the IEE wiring regulations
- Demonstrable and proven experience in a supervisory position.
Desirable
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Building Services Engineering
