The post holder will be responsible for performing diagnostic upper Gastro-duodenoscopy (OGD) on selected patients referred to the Endoscopy unit. The post holder will share responsibility for delivering the government targets aligned to the upper GI cancer pathway. The post holder will be working alongside an established team of nurses who deliver a range of Endoscopy Services.
The post holder will undertake specialist training delivered by Health Education England (HEE) and will be supported locally by the team, they will be automatically enrolled into this training.
The post holder will have flexibility within the service demands including evening/weekend working.
The post holder will always work within the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct.

37.5 Hours per week Following the recent merger of Aintree Hospital and Royal Liverpool Hospital, Liverpool University Foundation Trust. We are looking to appoint a dynamic and motivated individual to take up an exciting opportunity that has arisen to join an established team of Non Medical Endoscopists based on the Aintree Site.
Aintree site operates a busy service in a purpose build, state of the art Endoscopy Unit with a commitment to training and development. The post holder will be entered onto the national training programme validated by Health Education England (HEE).
The post holder will also be given training to undertake independent clinics relevant to the role including Barretts Surveillance Clinic, Pre-Endoscopy Clinic, Capsule Endoscopy and Telephone Assessment Clinics.
The Non-Medical Endoscopists on the unit work closely with the Consultants for Gastroenterology and Surgery undertaking independent Endoscopy sessions. Team working, leadership, flexibility and enthusiasm are the key to the post.
While trainees develop their knowledge and skills they will be employed at band 6 under Annex U. Once the have met the HEE criteria, and have received formal sign off they will move to Band 7.

Job responsibilities
To independently deliver diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures.
To independently run nurse led clinic where patients are holistically assessed to the appropriate diagnostic test/procedure
To appropriately manage a range of co-morbidities in line with current BSG Guidance and Trust Policy.
To manage and maintain a database of accurate information on all upper GI patients.
To Triage all referrals as necessary
Check and action appropriately any histological findings ensuring timely communication to GP and patient.
To maintain and manage and deliver the Capsule Service.
Ability to manage workload in accordance with agreed templates.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To provide a dedicated number of Upper GI Endoscopy sessions per week, each session will be to a maximum of 12 points when competency achieved.
The post holder will administer sedation to patients who choose to have intravenous conscious sedation or local anesthesia. These will be given working within set protocols.
The post holder must report the endoscopy findings to the referrer by generating an accurate report using the GI Reporting Tool. The post holder will be responsible for communicating the findings to the patient in a way the patient can understand.
In the event of a suspected or confirmed malignancy the post holder must ensure that the appropriate radiological investigations are requested.
The post holder must inform the patient of the results in a timely and sensitive manner, with support given to the patient and carers.
The post holder must refer patients to the Multi-Disciplinary Team as appropriate.
Refer patient to community services as and when needed.
Work flexibly within the team to deliver the increasing demand in endoscopy.
Promote senior clinical nurse leadership to the endoscopy nursing team developing nursing practice based upon clinical expertise and evidence.
Promote integrated working practices between endoscopy, outpatients, inpatients, wards and community services.
Influence care delivery by acting as a resource of expert professional knowledge for the team through application of theory in practice.
