We are recruiting a permanent Band 7 Team Lead Occupational Therapist to join our Cancer Therapies Team in our Adult Inpatient Haematology service. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Band 6 or 7 Occupational Therapist to develop clinical and managerial skills within a supportive environment.
The Haematology service at UCH is a tertiary care centre providing specialist treatment for complex haematological conditions. The service is now housed in the purpose build Grafton Way Building. This is an exciting time to join the MDT. This role has joint managerial responsibility for the team with a Team Lead Physiotherapist and works closely with the other Cancer Therapies Leads.
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated OT with relevant clinical skills to deliver and develop this service. The successful candidate will also have high-level communication skills, a flexible approach when working under pressure and demonstrate leadership potential.
The role carries a caseload of Haematology patients, whilst also supporting and developing other members of the team within this specialty. It will involve working effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, leading on complex discharge planning and management of patients towards end of life.

Main duties of the job
- Provide clinical leadership, delivery and co-ordination of therapy services within Haematology Therapy Team. This requires working autonomously and incorporating evidenced-based practice in management of patient care.
- Provide highly specialised assessment and treatment of patients admitted to Adult Inpatient Haematology who have highly complex needs, and provide expert advice, guidance and information to the MDT, carers and relatives.
- Implement department, directorate and trust objectives working with Clinical leads and Head of Therapies.
- Focus on developing and promoting the Therapy and Support Staff role within the speciality, as well as developing and promoting protocols and standards in the care of Haematology patients.
- Responsible for daily operational activities and planning, evaluation and development of the team in conjunction with Clinical Leads and Head of Therapies.
- Line manage and supervise less experienced therapy staff and students, while leading on and complying with professional and departmental standards of practice.
- Responsible for induction, training and supervision of junior staff, students and support staff on rotation in the team.
- Provide cover within the therapy department during periods of staff absence.
- Build excellent working relationships with the wider MDT (including Ward Managers, Matrons, General Managers and Medical Teams), representing therapies at specialty meetings, projects and working groups

- Significant post registration experience of Cancer services ideally within Haematology
