Job responsibilities
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Childrens Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our specialist nursing team.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic team player to join our forward thinking and innovative paediatric diabetes team.
You will be working within Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent, providing nursing care, intervention and education to Children and Young People with a diagnosis of Diabetes.
The work is delivered in a wide variety of settings including the child or young persons home, school/college and clinics.
The team are community based and work as part of a wider network within a multidisciplinary team including Consultants, Dietitians and psychologists.
The post offers opportunities for both professional and personal development to enhance your knowledge in diabetes care, team working and Leadership.
You must be a qualified nurse with at least 2-3 years post registration experience. Ideally you will hold an accredited course in Diabetes or demonstrate a keen interest in Diabetes management. The post holder will have an interest in education, teaching and mentorship for health care professionals and patients.Applicants must be able to work on their own as well as being part of the multi-disciplinary team. You will support clinics, multi-disciplinary meetings and home visits. You will additionally play a key role in supporting and educating patients, as well as community and practice staff to improve the quality of diabetes care.

Main duties of the job
- Be competent as appropriate to the requirements of the role.
- Always demonstrate the Partnership Trust Values.
- Be a Registered First Level Nurse (Children's) with current NMC Registration and have a detailed professional and clinical knowledge of Diabetes care and management
- Be responsible for a defined population of service users in a variety of settings across the Partnership Trust including the community and hospitals.
- Be skilled in the assessment of complex/specialist care/support needs and in the development, implementation, and evaluation of care.
- Have supervisory, training and leadership responsibilities where appropriate and will have some responsibility for team performance and service developments/improvements.
- Demonstrate initiative and be creative in finding solutions to problems.
- Work with the team leader undertaking delegated tasks in team management
- Be part of an on call service
