Following significant investment, we are expanding our Allied Health Profession provision across our inpatient mental health services. We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our AHP inpatient team in the North of the trust working across Rochdale and Oldham. This is an exciting opportunity working with service users with a range of communication, eating, drinking and swallowing needs.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the dietitians and physiotherapists in the new Inpatient AHP team, as well as the ward based multidisciplinary teams including nursing staff, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, advanced practitioners, and peer support workers. Candidates should be autonomous dysphagia practitioners who share our passion for delivering high quality interventions within a range of inpatient services, including working age adult and older adult mental health as well as our services providing inpatient rehabilitation and high support. You will have a strong values base underpinning your practice and embrace our Trust values of kindness, fairness, ingenuity and determination.
We will support you to develop your skills and creativity in this role through separate management and clinical supervision, as well as links with other speech and language therapists in the trust through our trust wide speech and language therapy forum. We expect candidates to network with other colleagues across the trust and beyond to develop practice and service provision including active membership of Clinical Excellence Groups in mental health/older adult mental health.

To be responsible for managing a speech and language therapy caseload withininpatient services
To adhere to national and local standards and guidelines relating to ProfessionalPractice including RCSLT, NICE etc.
To be autonomous and responsible for highly specialist assessment, differentialdiagnosis, formulation of treatment plans, writing assessment reports, providingappropriate intervention and evaluating the treatment outcome for each individualpatient
To be able to relate assessment findings to presenting needs /impairment / pathology
To prioritise, organise and manage a clinical caseload to ensure efficient andeffective high quality patient care

- Proven post registration experience at a band 6 or above of working with: acquired communication difficulties and/or mental health issues and/or service users with a learning disability
- Proven post registration experience at a band 6 or above of working independently with patients with swallowing difficulties
- Experience of prioritising communication and swallowing referrals to speech and language therapy
- Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team including development of shared goals and care planning
- Supervision of junior staff or support workers
Desirable
- Experience of working within mental health inpatient or community settings
Knowledge

- Understanding of a broad range of neurologically based communication and swallowing disorders
- Understanding of the range of communication and swallowing needs within a mental health settings

- Evidence of successful completion of relevant specialist short courses to maintain and develop a sound knowledge base of a specialist therapist working in the field of adult acquired swallowing and communication difficulties to Masters Level
- Certificate in dysphagia or equivalent - in-depth practical experience in the field of dysphagia
- Maintenance of clinical knowledge base / level of professional competency across the range of acquired communication and swallowing disorders to ensure evidence based practice
- Further training in end of life issues
- HCPC registered
