Hours: 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We have an exciting and innovative opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner specialising in Respiratory care, or already studying towards this qualification, to join our dedicated team who will be pivotal in our Virtual ward initiative. The successful applicant must be motivated and enthusiastic about the specialist care needs of this patient group.

This job is suitable for individuals who are compassionate, patient focused and have a real passion to improve care for our patients with early discharge through our Virtual ward.

You will be experienced in working in a multi-disciplinary / multi-agency health / social care environment and will provide expertise, advice, and support to the nursing and medical team ensuring the provision of high-quality care to patients from the first point of contact to their destination, either admission or discharge.

You will provide leadership and line management to our dedicated team of Respiratory Specialist Nurses.

The successful candidate if not already an ACP will be a Band 7 and promoted as a band 8a Advanced Clinical Practitioner, after the completion of their master's in advanced clinical Practice as well as meeting the requirements of the ACP competencies.

Main duties of the job

You should be able to demonstrate advanced communication skills, organisational and multi-tasking skills and have the ability to prioritise effectively and efficiently in a busy and fast paced working environment. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to support, teach, develop and educate others and possess good leadership skills. They should be able to work autonomously and work as part of a strong multidisciplinary team in order to maintain and deliver a high quality of care.

Job responsibilities

  • Clinical
    • Performs comprehensive clinical assessment.
    • Requests, performs, interprets, and follow up on diagnostics tests to support clinical decision making.

    Leadership and management
    • Acts as a proactive clinical leader, demonstrating effective leadership skills.
    • Promotes best practice for the patients, using standards, clinical guidelines, and research/audit findings.

    Education
    • Undertakes statutory and mandatory training as required by the Trust.
    • Participates in the theoretical and clinical education and training of others.

    Research
    • Assists in data collection for local, national, and multi-centre research projects.
    • Identifies areas for research and audit, liaising with the research and audit teams.

    Strategic Planning
    • Contributes to the deliver of the Trusts Nursing & Midwifery Strategy.
    • Acts a member of the senior nurse to promote the effective and efficient delivery of nursing and midwifery care at the Trust.

    Operational Planning and Service Delivery
    • Ensures the quality, standard and range of care provided are optimised within the available resources and in line with contract requirements.
    • Develops an effective and responsive organisational infrastructure capable of achieving planned objectives and incorporating control and audit systems for monitoring service performance against corporate objectives and the business plan.

    Qualifications and knowledge

    Essential

    • Registered Practitioner with current registration with a professional regulatory body
    • Advanced Life Support
    • Highly developed communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Specialist knowledge in the service


    Desirable

    • Master's degree in advanced clinical practice
    • Non-medical prescriber
    • A clinical leadership/management qualification/experience
    • Clinical History Taking and Physical Examination training/experience
    • Evidence of autonomous practice with high level of decision making


    Experience

    Essential

    • Evidence of critical thinking with regards to effective patient management


    Desirable

    • Experience in clinical governance (risk management and complaints management)
    • Experience in investigating serious untoward incident with follow up actions
    • Experience of leading quality improvement initiatives
    • Experience in providing expert clinical care and advice
    • Evidence of research skills
    • Evidence of producing and presenting clinical papers/posters
