Due to internal promotion, Ward C2 - Gastro has an opportunity for an experienced dynamic and highly motivated Nurse to join our team as the Ward's Clinical Sister. This is an ideal opportunity for a Nurse looking to further develop their leadership and management skills within a supportive environment and team.

Ward C2 is a 27 bedded unit comprised of 4 5 bedded bays and 7 ensuite isolation rooms. We care for patients with a range of gastroenterology conditions including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver disease and nutrition issues, as well as general medical patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be an integral member of the Ward leadership team, deputising for the Ward Manager and Deputy Ward Manager in their absence. It is essential you possess excellent communication, decision making and problem solving skills, giving the ability to manage both patient flow through the Ward and staffing issues as they arise.

A level of experience and expertise will be required to ensure safe, evidence-based practice and a high standard of patient care is maintained. The Ward is currently involved in quality improvement projects so the ability to adapt to and manage change will also be needed. Another key part of the role is supporting staff development through training and supervision.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications

Essential

  • Level 1 Registered Nurse
  • Diploma in Nursing or evidence of recent relevant CPD at diploma level
  • Qualified mentor (ENB 998 or mentorship award or equivalent) or working towards
  • Evidence of Post Registration development in the relevant specialty
  • Qualified NVQ Assessor (A1 or equivalent) or working towards


Desirable

  • Degree in Nursing or working towards
  • Leadership Qualification


Occupational experience and abilities

Essential

  • Minimum 18 Months experience
  • Sound clinical skills/knowledge within medicine or surgery
  • Clinical audit skills
  • Knowledge of HR policies/procedures relevant to managing people
  • Knowledge of current local and national nursing agenda and priorities


Desirable

  • Experience of managing a team or area within a ward area
  • Leadership skills and knowledge
  • Involvement in change management
  • Management Skills (Budgets, establishments, purchasing etc)
