Oakwood is an 8 bedded male rehabilitation unit within the Health and Justice Service in Middlesbrough. This unit specialises in patients diagnosed with a Learning Disability and/or Autism with offending behaviour and require care and treatment under the Mental Health Act. Oakwood is a standalone unit presented as a house in the community which provides a homely and relaxed feel for our service-users and staff whilst supporting with community integration.

The rehabilitation unit enables people to step down from secure wards when there is still a requirement for risk management and recovery focused interventions to provide opportunities to continue their journey back into their community. Oakwood provides opportunity to practice life skills, increase confidence, receive robust recovery orientated support, and look at future planning.

There is a comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Team approach.

Oakwood works closely with the Secure Outreach Transitions Team who provide additional activity to the unit, treatment plan reviews and discharge planning. We work alongside different external partners such as: advocacy, solicitors, Police and the Ministry of Justice.

Our overall goals are to improve recovery in people's lives by minimising the impact of mental ill health or a learning disability, all service users to have a support plan and complete treatment interventions to promote a safe and successful transfer into the community

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a nurse who is motivated and enthusiastic to join our team to support the recovery of our service users. Oakwood has a long-standing team who are very experienced and knowledgeable and are commended on their staff wellbeing initiatives and support that is provided to one another. There is opportunity to undertake CPD training and to receive support and guidance on professional development.

An Oakwood shift as a nurse would involve allocating tasks medications management completing mental health assessments risk assessments reviewing care plans 1:1 therapy reviews e.g. making wise choices 1:1 support physical health reviews risk management audits handovers supervisions and attend meetings. You would be offered regular supervision, appraisal reviews, team away days and additional forms of supervisions e.g., psychology supported tea and chats.

Oakwood is a relaxed environment where restrictive interventions are extremely rare, we plan ward days out on a quarterly basis, celebrate all traditions and cultures through theme nights and sessions and have home cooked meals every day.

If you feel you would be a good fit to join our team and have any questions regarding the role, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
