This is an exciting opportunity to apply to be the Deputy Professional Lead for the Respect Team within Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Respect training is aimed at producing the safest, most effective and ethical solutions to preventing and managing behaviours that challenge.

The Respect Team is a friendly team to work in and are proactively engaged in some exciting changes which you could be part of and instrumental in leading. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated individual with an interest in service development, quality improvement and a passion to ensure our service users receive high quality, compassionate and safe care.

The individual will work in close collaboration with the Respect Professional Lead and Consultant Nurse for Restrictive Practice to enhance the quality of the service user experience in relation to the prevention and management of violence and aggression and reducing the need for restrictive practice.

To undertake a deputy leadership and management role in the delivery and implementation of Respect and the Least Restrictive Practice Strategy workplan you will need to be a Registered Professional. You should be a confident, competent and person-centered leader with a high level of knowledge and skills of inpatient care and of the standards and procedures that direct and influence this system.

We would be particularly interested in hearing from people from an ethnically diverse background.

Main duties of the job

The post is full time and requires flexibility to meet the needs of the service. Training is mainly delivered during weekdays however at times evening and weekends are required to support service need.

You will be expected to work within a compact team of staff with a variety of roles, supporting the delivery of supervision, team development, design and implementation of operating procedures and using learning to contribute to the review or development of policies. There is an expectation that you will be, or train as an instructor and have confidence in speaking publicly to share the work that the RESPECT team do.

A core component of the role is to support the implementation of the Respect philosophy, the Use of Force Policy and the Least restrictive practice strategy by working collaboratively with service users, staff and teams.

Job responsibilities

  • Delivery of a comprehensive training programme.
  • To work with and through the Senior Professional lead, to offer and deliver Respect training, having completed and using:
    • Training in Respect
    • Competency in Respect training as an instructor
    • Through applications of lessons plans and schemes of work for the agreed training for Respect
  • To participate in audits of responsibility as and when required.
  • Champion key elements of clinical/practice governance focusing on leading and supporting staff in ways of continuously improving the quality of services.
  • Support the implementation and delivery of the Least Restrictive Practice strategy workplan.
  • By leading by example and ensuring that systems of care are in keeping with best practice and evidence based.
  • They will:
  • Manage the Respect Band 5 and Band 4 posts
  • They should have experience of working with people with mental health conditions, safety and care planning.
  • They should have understanding of human rights, legal frameworks such as the Mental Health Act/Mental Capacity Act and key strategies related to quality improvement such as trauma informed care and person-centered care. This is at the heart of everything we do.

Provide a service for assessing and developing care pathways for service users with severely challenging behaviours based on priority, advice and guidance of the Senior Professional Lead and the clinical team

- Facilitate advice and support via the wider Respect team and the senior instructor regarding service user issues which are contentious utilising expertise and skills to promote holistic and therapeutic interventions in the management of risk.

- Provide clinical reports as required within area of expertise.

To ensure that there is a supportive culture within the team. To harness the capacity, energy, commitment and enthusiasm of team members and service users.
