Are you an experienced paediatric nurse with an interest in Cleft? Are you a resilient and innovative practitioner? Do you enjoy supporting children and families from birth to transition? Would you enjoy managing a caseload and liaising with external networks and community services to provide specialist support and increase outcomes?An opportunity has arisen for an experienced paediatric nurse to join our multidisciplinary cleft nursing team as a band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).We are looking for an organised, innovative and resilient individual to work as part of a dynamic team providing education, training and support from pre-birth throughout the cleft pathway, to families under the care of the South Thames Cleft network. This includes providing telephone, face to face and email advice, home and hospital visits, pre and post-operative support and attending MDT clinics. You will be supporting families in hospital, in their own home and those returning to the hospital for clinical review and outpatient clinics. You will also liaise with other services within the Trust and across the network to deliver co-ordinated holistic care.
Main duties of the job
As a CNS you will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team working together to deliver this specialist service. You will often be the first contact for families with a new cleft diagnosis. This role is based on site at the Evelina London. Due to nature of this role access to a car is essential.
You must be willing to train in order to attain skills required for the role such as the diagnosis of a new cleft conditions in new-born babies, feeding assessments and ongoing specialist feeding support, management of nasopharyngeal airways (NPA) in hospital and at home. Pre-operative and post-operative assessment and other specialist skills required for the role. You will be an expert communicator and educator, able to manage complex situations and support children and families. You must have a genuine interest in cleft conditions and significant background experience in general paediatrics. Some knowledge and experience of caring for surgical patients especially those with adjuncts such as NPA's desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be well supported by the team Matron and wider experienced CNS team. The CNS role provides both clinical and professional leadership to junior clinical nurse specialists within the service in order to facilitate and improve clinical standards. You will ensure that all children are treated with compassion, dignity and respect, placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond. The CNS role also ensures that the child's experience is of the highest quality inspiring child, family and public confidence. This will be achieved through high visibility, accessibility and surveillance.
Please note: this role will be based on site at the Evelina London Children's Hospital. Although London based you will be required to travel across the region on occasions to manage newly diagnosed babies. This role will also play a large part in developing the transition services within the team.
Additional to your contractualhours,once competent you will be expected to partake in the 1:7 on call weekend rota.
