Main duties of the job

Join the dynamic Infection Prevention & Control Team (IPCT) and be at the forefront of delivering a stellar clinical service to the Trust! As a vital member, you'll provide specialized nursing expertise in identifying, preventing, monitoring, and controlling infections.

Your role extends to being a knowledgeable resource, facilitating infection control, and actively revising Trust policies. Dive into daily laboratory rounds, balance diverse work demands, and contribute to the formulation of teaching strategies. Your knack for logical and structured reporting will shine as you assist in developing audit tools for targeted surveillance.

Whilst Infection Control generally cover Monday to Friday, there will be some expectation to also cover weekend hours.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will preferably have experience of Infection Prevention and Control practice and be in a position to advise our teams on matters relating to Infection Prevention and Control, or have fulfilled the role of clinical link nurse for infection control. Although previous experience is preferred it is not mandatory as training will be provided.

You will be required to work closely with all divisions, ward/unit managers and matrons across the organisation.

You will be required to work operationally reviewing patients with current/suspected infections providing an advisory role for clinical staff, manage outbreaks of infection and support ward staff with education and Infection Prevention and Control guidance in line with Trust policy and national guidance. You will also contribute/manage the post infection review process.

You must possess outstanding communication skills with a track record of delivery. Nurse registration is not essential to this role, however professional registration is and practical experience of managing Infection Prevention and Control is desirable.

You must be able to demonstrate the values and visions of the organisation and evidence how you enact these into your everyday practice.

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • oRegistered Professional
  • oRelevant specialist qualification in Infection Control e.g. ENB 329, Diploma/degree in Infection Control / microbiology
  • oTeaching Qualification e.g. City and Guilds 7307, ENB 998 or other relevant teaching qualification.
  • oFirst degree or on a degree pathway
  • oEvidence of consistent professional and education development at an advanced level.


Desirable

  • oManagement qualification
  • oMasters or academically able to study at Masters level in a Health related topic


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • oCurrent consolidated experience in infection control.
  • oUp-to-date clinical credibility / competence
  • oExperience of teaching
  • oKnowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • oKnowledge of current NHS and Professional issues
  • oExperience of leading and embedding change
  • oExperience of establishing partnerships in health care with multi -professional groups and patients and carers
  • oEvidence of research based practice
  • oEvidence of changing practice


Desirable

  • oExperience at ward/department management level
