UHCW are seeking an enthusiastic and focused Registered Midwife with excellent interpersonal communication and organisation skills

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire are a large teaching hospital who provide services to the population of Coventry, Rugby and surrounding areas. As an innovative and forward thinking trust, we would like to invite an experienced Band 6 Midwife with a passion for providing and enhancing care to women with diabetes both within the antenatal clinic and ward settings to join our Maternity team.

The successful post holder will work alongside the multi-professional team, and Diabetes specialist Midwife to promote a woman centred focus. They will also assist to support with the training and development of the diabetes service for pregnant women from Coventry and Warwickshire within antenatal clinics at Coventry and Rugby St Cross.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide ante natal, post-natal and intrapartum care to women with diabetes in the hospital setting. The post holder will provide antenatal care for women with type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. They will deliver care in a manner which promotes a woman centred focus.

To be responsible and accountable for the full range of care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programs of care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for women with diabetes and their newborn.

The post holder will facilitate with the training and development of the diabetes service for pregnant women.

The post holder will work clinically with the diabetes specialist Nursing and Midwifery team in specific GDM clinics to review diabetes management of women with GDM.

The post holder assist the diabetes team in following up all of the Oral Glucose Tolerance Tests performed in pregnancy at UHCW.

Job responsibilities

  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times
  • Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team
  • A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented, and evaluated/audited
  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of her/his clinical skill
  • Provides caseload midwifery practice as a continuity of care model that meets the demand of the women who book to have their babies at UHCW regardless of the place of birth
  • Work with the named lead and co-ordinator for women, families, and staff with regards to diabetes in pregnanc
  • Participates in regular clinical orientation updates within maternity inpatient services
  • Act for the Diabetes Lead Midwife in her/his absence
  • Demonstrate highly technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring equipment management and frequent administration of invasive tests/procedures
  • Develop and educate staff, participating in mentorship and appraisal as required
  • Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, data available
  • Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
