This role is for Band 5 midwives who are qualified or due to qualify in this year. You will be offered a 12 month preceptorship programme working alongside our Practice Development Team. You will have an opportunity to work in all clinical areas in order to develop competencies in all aspects of midwifery care.
We are affiliated to the University of Greenwich where midwives can undertake courses at Level 6 and 7. The Maternity services run an excellent in-house training programme, including an advanced fetal monitoring workshop, simulated learning, NLS and PROMPT based intensive emergency skills drills workshop.
We are near to Ebbsfleet internal train station, Bluewater and Lakeside Shopping Centres, and only a train drive away from Central London and the Kent countryside.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking enthusiastic and keen Midwives to join our maternity unit.
The maternity service currently approximately 5,000 deliveries a year serving women living in the areas of Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley and Bexley and is currently in the process of exciting new expansion developments including MatNeo projects, MEDI innovations and successfully support the Maternity Apprenticeship programme.
The successful applicant will have a chance to enhance their normal midwifery skills, including water births and autonomous practice as well as developing additional skills such as perineal suturing, theatre scrubbing and cannulation.
Newly qualified midwives will follow a preceptorship programme for 12 months and will rotate throughout the different clinical areas, which include the co-located Birthing Unit, Triage, antenatal/postnatal wards, Delivery suite and future community developments.

Specific Responsibilities1. Clinical responsibilities:1.1 Maintains personal contact with patients and meets their needs on an individual basis, using the process of listening, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care. Is aware of the anxieties of relatives and the support they may need.1.2 Carries out midwifery care to the highest possible standard according to agreed policies and procedures, as well as the Midwives Code of Practice. Ensure that the appropriate practitioner is informed promptly of any complication or change in the mothers or babys condition.1.3 Ensure effective communication with health care professionals and other personnel to ensure continued care to the patient and assists in the smooth running of the department.1.4 Participates in and gives reports on the changes occurring in treatment and client needs during their shift.1.5 Is prepared to work in areas of the midwifery service other than where based in order to meet the requirements of the service. Participates in internal rotation throughout the department and cover both day and night shifts.1.6 Maintains the supply and custody of drugs / medicines etc including keeping agreed register. Ensures that measuring, administration andrecording of all drugs and medicines is carried out in accordance with the rules of the NMC and according to Trust policy.2. Managerial responsibilities:2.1 Is aware of, understands and carries out Trust policies as contained in Ward / unit manuals e.g.a) Complaintsb) Confidentialityc) Patients property and valuablesd) Accidents / incidents involving staff / patients / members of the public.2.2 Maintains ward supplies and participates in clinical trials and evaluation. Ensures that all equipment is maintained in safe working order and returned to appropriate departments when no longer required.
