Interested in a career as a Heart Failure Specialist Nurse?

An opportunity has arisen to work as a part time heart failure specialist nurse and study for a level 7 module in heart failure management. We have received funding from NHS England to fund a years educational post in conjunction with Education for Health.

We are keen to receive applications from people wanting to develop their heart failure knowledge, having completed the educational module they would be working alongside our established in patient heart failure specialist nursing team.

The role would involve attending the Heart Failure Beyond the Basics Level 7 module which runs via supported online learning, details here: Heart Failure Beyond the Basics Level 7 module - Education For Health Following completion of the course the successful candidate would be based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, working 18.75 hours spread over 2 or 3 days with our acute heart failure team.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with previous cardiology experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level. Initially this is a post funded for 12 months only, however our Heart Failure Nursing team is expanding and there should be an opportunity to apply for a permanent position in the future. Secondments may be considered and can be discussed on an individual basis.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should be willing to undertake necessary training courses and modules and have some previous experience of cardiology/cardiac nursing.

This post involves face to face contact with patients and their families in an acute setting by delivering clinics and assessing patients on the wards.

The successful candidate will be expected to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of evidence-based care (pharmacological and non-pharmacological management) and provide specialist advice to patients, carers/relatives.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
