Main duties of the job

Performing haemodialysis therapy and patient focused care related to it.

Working within a team and when required as a team leader to ensure smooth running of the unit and managing problems when they arise.

Assessment of patients each time they come for treatment like fluid assessment and find an effective solution to their problems.

Liasing with Doctors, Patients, families, outside agencies, other wards and colleagues regarding patient care.

Health teaching and giving support to patients about their condition, how to take care of their dialysis access and diet.

Check each patients drug cards ensuring no medications have been missed.

Completing nursing documentation.

About us

We are a Team of 63 members of staff who work on the Dialysis Unit. All of our staff are friendly who make everyone welcome to the unit. We have a Shared Governance Team who do lots of fund raising for the unit.

Job responsibilities

Motivated Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse required to join a proactive dynamic nursing team on the Dialysis Unit at City Hospital Campus. As part of your role you may be asked wo work with both inpatients and outpatients and may at times be asked to cover other satellite areas at Kingsmill and Ilkeston Hospitals during staff shortasges.

Recent or current experience in a Dialysis setting as this is a specialised unit.

Training & Qualifications

Essential

  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Relevant post-basic study e.g. specialist pathway
  • Have a suitable Teaching & Assessing Qualification
  • Possession of a Mentoring Course


Desirable

  • Diploma or degree in health / nursing related studies
  • Continuing professional development / reflective profile
  • Completion of all local competency packages
  • Formal leadership and management training
  • Research training / experience


Experience

Essential

  • Experience at Band 5 for a minimum of 3 years
  • Supervision of non registered staff, pre registration and post basic students
  • Evidence of ability to mentor
  • Ability to manage the clinical area or ward efficiently and effectively
  • Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff


Desirable

  • Recent or current expedrience within the speciality
  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work
  • Audit or research within the clinical area
  • Providing staff with feedback on their individual performance and use of the knowledge and skills framework

  • Physically able to perform the full range of nursing duties
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills
