Nurse Consultant / Lead Nurse Tissue Viability Service / Associate Nurse ConsultantDepartment: Corporate Band 8B/ 8A- to develop into 8B Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tissue Viability nurse who is working at band 8a level to join the Corporate Nursing team in a specialist consultant role to lead and coordinate the Trust's tissue viability service.
A developmental programme that offers the successful candidate the opportunity as a band 8a to successfully complete the associated training package and to work through the National Wound Care core competencies and relevant leadership programmes for the nurse consultant role in clinical practice. Upon successful completion, the successful candidate will be promoted to a nurse consultant role within the service. The agreed time frame for completion will be 2 years.
The successful candidate will work alongside the senior nursing team to embed best practices in the prevention of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers.

This role will require you to work independently within the Corporate Team provide expert clinical advice at local and regional levels and develop close links with other tissue-related specialist services, ensuring joint working and best practice implementation. You will lead the education and training program in tissue viability for the multidisciplinary team and advance the specialist tissue viability service. In addition, you will provide oversight of patient safety incidents related to tissue viability and lead and influence a reduction in pressure ulcer incidence.

The post holder will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of autonomy, judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care. To lead the provision of consistently high standards of care, using advanced nursing knowledge and specialist expertise to patients.
To autonomously manage a patient caseload. This will include assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating complex programmes of care for patients.
Utilise specialist knowledge and practical skills in tissue viability e.g.: leg ulcer management including Doppler ABPI assessment, sharp debridement skills, assessment for and application of negative pressure therapies, assessment for and application of larvae therapy.
Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice. Select and recommend treatment (medication and non-medication) from a range of options requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of highly complex specialist clinical information. Work with patients in order to support compliance with and adherence to prescribed treatments.
To lead the development of appropriate documentation and record keeping for the Tissue Viability service and monitor and maintain standards of data collection and reporting. Fulfil any statutory national or local requirements.
