Paediatric Staff Nurse - Children's Ward and Emergency Department Rotation post, Horton Hospital

We are looking for dynamic Nurses with paediatric experience able to adapt to different environments and work well within a multi-disciplinary team. We are looking for both newly qualified, and experienced staff nurses.

The children's emergency department is a growing department with a dedicated area for paediatrics.Although this is a fast-paced environment, we encourage learning opportunities and will support you to developadvanced nursing skills. You will see a wide variety of traumatic and medical presentations, while working closely alongside emergency nurse practitioners and doctors to deliver holistic care.

Main duties of the job

The children's ward at the Horton General Hospital looks after a variety of specialities from medicine to surgery. We care for children from 0 up to 18 years of age. We have 14 beds and have dedicated day surgery lists up to 4 times a week. Every day is different, and we strive to offer the best quality family centre care we can.

We offer study days to all staff including Thames Valley and Wessex High Dependency passport days, critical care retrieval study days, oncology study days. Staff are encouraged to participate in band 5 study days held at the John Radcliffe.

You will be supported by a wide multi-disciplinary team in as well as experienced nurses to aid your development and support your transition to our paediatric team.

This rotation offers a balance of acute care and trauma skills alongside a diverse paediatric ward environment. If you are looking for a challenge, then this job may be for you.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

- Deliver a patient centred style of practice that reflects and promotes the beliefsand values of professional nursing practice within the Emergency Department

- Independently assess, deliver and evaluate care to a defined caseload of patients

- Assume coordinating responsibility for individual clinical areas, proactively resolving problems identified within the individual clinical area

- Set and maintain standards of practice, conduct or decision making in conjunction with Sister / Charge Nurse / Matron / Senior Nursing Team

- Accurately document and report to other members of the nursing andmultidisciplinary team information regarding the care given to patients,communicating changes as they occur

- Supervise, mentor, support and educate pre-registration nurses, undergraduate nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team in the clinical practice setting

- Liaise with other health care professionals with on-going responsibility for patient care

- Adhere to the code: Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives (NMC 2008)

- Demonstrate a commitment to research-based practice and clinical excellence. Play an active part in the introduction of research-based change to improve patient centred care

- Demonstrate awareness and understanding of accountability, responsibility, and duty of care. Support and educate junior staff of the implications for practice.

Desirable

• Competent to administer intravenous medicines
• Competent in central venous access management

Education, training and qualifications

Essential

• Registered Nurse (Part 1. 8. 12 or 15 of register depending on area of practice).
• UK recognised Degree in Nursing relevant to post
• Evidence of ongoing professional development through maintenance of an ongoing NMC revalidation.

Desirable

• Hold a recognised NMC qualification in teaching and mentoring.
• Post-graduate qualification related to an area of practice.
• Evidence of achievement on a Nursing and Midwifery, (NMC) approved Mentorship qualification.
