The Specialist Nurse for Children Looked After will contribute to the identification and assessment of health needs and the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme and Childhood Vaccination Programmes to Camden's Children Looked After regardless of geographical placement.
The post holder will work with doctors and other nurses within the Camden Children's Looked After Health Team and will be responsible for an agreed caseload of children. The post holder will provide a direct clinical service for the needs of Looked After Children as well as a supportive and educational role for carers, health professionals and partners in Social services and education.

To ensure that screening and health assessments are carried out in a timely manner for children and young people in foster placements, residential units and other placements.

Job responsibilities
- To ensure that screening and health assessments are carried out in a timely manner for Children and young people in foster placements, residential units and other placements.
- Providing a direct clinical service as part of the health care plan.
- To undertake health assessments for Looked After Children of all ages that are placed outside the London Borough of Camden, making arrangements to the young persons home where this is required.
- To ensure that systems and databases are in place to collate health information and analyse health data about CLA.
- To provide information and recommendations from the analysis of data to CNWL FT Trust and partner agencies that will inform the delivery of services to meet the needs of CLA and provide health information required by the Department of Health.
- Take an active role in collection of statistics and undertaking audit of nursing practice using database and word processing skills.
- Contribute to the development of key CLA performance indicators to assess compliance.
- To assess the physical, social and psychological health and well-being needs of identified Children Looked After, and young people giving information, advice or counselling and support and making referrals as appropriate.
- Where a Looked After Childs Immunisations are not up to date for their age the postholder will administer these on either a planned or opportunistic basis. Training will be provided by CNWL if required by the postholder.
- To be responsible for the planning, implementation and review of individual programmes of care in identified situations. To provide information on and facilitate access to a childhood vaccination programme for children under up to 18 years old.
- To take an active role in identifying and preventing child abuse and to participate in multiagency safeguarding procedures as appropriate.
- To identify mental health needs and ensure referrals to appropriate services are made.
- To work closely and in collaboration with the Medical Advisor for the Camden Adoption Panel.
- To give health promotion advice to Looked After Children, their carers and other relevant individuals on issues that may include:
- Health Eating/Healthy Weight
- Sexual health & contraception
- Smoking Cessation
- Substance Misuse
- Emotional Health & Wellbeing
- Sleep Difficulties
- To provide specific advice, training & support to staff in health and other partner agencies that are providing care to Camdens looked after Children.

- NMC Registered Nurse
- Registered Health Visitor/ School Nurse/ Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification.
- Teaching qualification or relevant experience
Desirable
- Counselling/CBT Qualification

- Significant experience of working with CLA
- Experience of undertaking and reporting on Review Health Assessments for CLA
- Experience of working with partner agencies to promote the health of CLA
- Experience of conducting risk assessments and devising an associated risk management plan
- Experience of meeting the health needs of children 0-5 and 5-19
Desirable
- Experience of making presentations to a variety of audiences including child & young people and members of staff in partner agencies
- Experience of providing line management and clinical supervision.
