Planned Cares Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Directorate are looking to recruit an Assistant Service Manager to provide support to the Service Manager for the safe and efficient operational delivery of Surgical Services. This is an exciting opportunity to assist in the delivery of our elective programme.
You will provide leadership and management skills to enable the clinical specialties to meet its agreed aims and objectives within an efficient, effective and safe working environment. You will have full line management responsibility for the Theatre Planner Coordinator and overall responsibility of the planning and scheduling of elective activity.
This key role is designed to ensure that a smooth and effective, high quality administrative service is provided by the specialty administrative teams to clinicians, patients and all required Trusts colleagues. You will be responsible for workload management and delegation across the team regarding listing of patients, capacity and demand analysis (including working closely with Pre-Operative Assessment colleagues) and managing any cancellations that may need actioning. All of this must take into consideration performance targets including, but not an exhaustive list 18 weeks Referral to Treatment, 6 week Diagnostics, Cancer 14/31/62 day standards and the proactive management of long waiters.
Main duties of the job
The Assistant Service Manager will be responsible for ensuring day to day operational activity runs as effectively and efficiently as possible, highlighting variances or activity pressures to the Service Manager.
The Assistant Service Manager will provide support and assurance on performance delivery as part of the overall Directorate performance framework.
Overall line management of the Theatre Planning Coordinator
To undertake the appraisal team member
Day to day management of Theatre planner
Responsible for reviewing lists 6 weeks ahead and making sure the right patients are on lists (i.e Long waiters, fast tracks)
To make sure lists are booked 6 weeks ahead and are fully utilised and managing the team responsible for booking to ensure deadliners are met
Liaise with ASM/SM regarding lists and escalate concerns to the relevant SM/DM
Act as the deputy for the Service Manager in their absence
