The post holder will lead on several key technical areas within the team. This will involve all elements of Server, Infrastructure and End-User Computing delivery. This post is part of the integrated digital service that supports both Alder Hey and Liverpool Heart & Chest, and thus the post holder will support and work across both sites and organisations supporting:
The post holder will be expected to provide specialist advice across the range of Digital Services, and where applicable, project and programme management will be required as part of the role. Responsibilities for strategic planning and roadmap development within the specialised areas will also be expected.

The post holder will be expected to provide specialist advice across the range of Digital Services, and where applicable, project and programme management will be required as part of the role. Main duties of the job
- Provide timely advice concerning the provision of desktop/devices solutions and related technology to deliver service-specific requirements, supported by a continual view of emerging technology and solutions available within the NHS and the IT sector as a whole.
- Provide management and direction to the department concerning technical approaches and solutions.
- Devise close working relationships and technically influence the use of technology and skillsets for the front-end services and clinical teams and escalation points for Incidents and requests.
- There is a requirement to liaise with other sections of the Digital Services Team, other Health Boards and National Teams concerning the following, requiring communication of often complex issues, and negotiating appropriate prioritisation and planned outcomes with a multi-disciplinary approach:
- Service desk.
- In house and hosted systems.
- Data Comms.
- Voice Comms.
- Server / SAN Storage Technologies
- VMWare Virtualisation
- Security, Data protection and NHS code of connection.

- Provide highly complex technical advice and judgements concerning desktop/device specification and configuration through analysis, interpretation, and comparison of ranges of options and to have specialist knowledge in these areas.
- Support the Head of Digital Delivery in the management and maintenance of all desktop/device deployments including testing, installation, commissioning, and replacement by analysing and comparing a complex range of options and to ensure that all related services are run in strict accordance with Procedures and Policies.
- Support the Head of Digital Delivery in the management and maintenance of all Server deployments (both physical and Virtual) including testing, installation, commissioning, and replacement by analysing and comparing a complex range of options and to ensure that all related services are run in strict accordance with Procedures and Policies.
- Monitor the Network/Server/desktop/device infrastructure on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that all errors and breaches are identified and addressed.
- Manage the provision of access to secure file storage repositories and ensure key staff are trained appropriately to grant access as required..
- Identify and critically evaluate areas that will benefit from investment, in line with strategy, and from increased efficiency and savings, in line with financial sustainability objectives.

- Have advanced skills in the manipulation of databases and configuration/reconfiguration of systems and infrastructure, both hardware and software within this there is a specific requirement for accuracy and a very narrow margin for error, due to potential impact on the system
- Develop the services approach to Joiners, Movers and Leavers and drive an improvement programme in this area.
- Be responsible for the correct usage of high value physical and software assets and supplies including quotation, order, delivery and asset management across the whole organisation.
- Ensure correct license usage with desktop services to ensure compliance with suppliers.
- Provide day to day coordination and guide the staff within the Desktop Team.
- Provide formal and informal training to the wider Digital department about major changes and new systems within your area of specialism.
- Will lead on and undertake regular audit desktop services to ensure performance to optimal standards and monitor system improvements
