We have an exciting opportunity for newly qualified and experienced nurses to become part of our innovative, forward thinking surgical nursing team. Our surgical unit provides care for children requiring general, specialist and tertiary surgical care from all over South, Mid and West Wales

Our nurses become highly skilled in caring for a number of surgical specialities, including neurosurgery, spinal, orthopaedics, ENT, urology and much more, we are also the Paediatric Major Trauma Centre for Children in Wales

Newly qualified staff will have a 6-week supernumerary period which will include a Child Health induction programme along with practical and theoretical, surgery specific study days. You will beenrolled onto the UHB's preceptorship programme this includes medicine management, wound care, catheterisation and more. Our Paediatric Surgical Unit has an excellent reputation for high quality care and we pride ourselves on our supportive staff, inclusive environment and fantastic learning opportunities

You will be supported by the practice educator as well as other senior nursing staff to ensure a smooth transition into your new role

We support extended roles such as link nurses, cascade trainers, advanced nurse practitioners as well as a variety of clinical nurse specialists

We look forward to gaining team members who are enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills to support the delivery of care as well as being a positive member of the team

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the assessment of care needs and for the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care without direction and supervision. Applicants will demonstrate and supervise practice and procedures to registered and unregistered nursing staff to secure effective nursing practice and at all times be aware of and practice within the NMC Code of Conduct. Applicants will participate as an active member of the nursing and multi- disciplinary teams, be accountable for your practice and work in partnership with other health care professionals, children/patient and others in the delivery of care.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
