DBTH are looking for an experienced & dynamic Senior Theatre Practitioner, with extensive & proven surgical scrub skills/anaesthetic skills to join our GI team.As a large district teaching hospital we offer all the benefits of a larger city hospital, though continue to maintain the more personal & family atmosphere of a smaller district hospital. This positive atmosphere & environment continues throughout all our theatre departments & as such we continuously achieve high levels of staff retention & low levels of vacancies which result in positive patient experiences.With 5 theatre departments over 3 hospital sites & 8 operating theatres within the main theatre department, there are opportunities to work with staff from & within multiple surgical specialities, allowing the successful candidate to continuously develop themselves & the GI Theatre Service.

Main duties of the job

  • You will at all times work in accordance with the Codes of Professional Conduct, NMC & HCPC & ensure the activities within the team & department reach required professional standard.
  • You will contribute to the Co-ordination of the team's development.
  • You will be expected to maintain the highest standards of patient care at all times, appropriately respond to any concerns as they arise & participate in any investigation.
  • The prevention & control of infection is an integral part of this role & in conjunction with all relevant professionals you will contribute to the prevention & control through standard practices & compliance with the Trust's policies.
  • You will promote & maintain a professional, positive & healthy working environment, listening & responding to concerns whilst ensuring standards are upheld & responsibilities are at all times completed.

The GI Service at Doncaster Royal infirmary provides a multitude of procedures to patients across South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and the Surrounding areas and is part of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of Yorkshire's leading acute trusts, serving a population of more than 420,000.

Being part of the Main Theatre Department you will continue to gain a wealth of experience and knowledge and you will be encouraged and supported by staff and clinical leads from other specialities, including the Department Managers, Matron and Theatre Services manager to achieve this.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an experienced Theatre Practitioner with extensive scrub experience and will become an integral part of our GI Theatre Team at Doncaster Royal infirmary.

The successful candidate will be expected to co-ordinate the activities of the specialist team to ensure the highest standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised holistic patient care in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.

They will be required to work flexibly to support and deputise for the Department Manager in the management of the clinical area and participate in the out-of-hours standby/on-call rota as required.

To provide the Clinical Expertise within theatres, ensuring a high standard of training and development within the team and provision of a quality service.

As the B6 theatre Practitioner in the GI Theatre, experience of General Surgery is paramount and experience of vascular and emergency surgery is highly desirable.

Based in the Main Theatre Department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, there will be opportunities to gain further experience in other specialities and you will work closely with the clinical leads for Urology, Vascular, General Surgery, Ophthalmology and ENT.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years at Band 5 Theatre Practitioner
  • Scope roles/competencies relevant to speciality
  • Evidence of department management under supervision
  • Demonstration of knowledge and skills in required speciality / specialities.


Desirable

  • Evidence of research based practice
  • Able to work across Anaesthetic/and Surgical duties
  • Seizes opportunities to learn about and implement new technology to enhance personal and team performance


Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • RGN with current registration/NVQ 3 ODP/C& G752
  • Degree or currently working towards
  • Willingness to complete degree
  • Demonstrate professional post-registration development
  • Have D32/33 997/998 or equivalent teaching qualification


Desirable

  • Participation in management / leadership courses.
