The role of the Estates Maintenance Craftsperson (Carpenter) is to provide a comprehensive Healthcare maintenance service to all wards and departments within a multidisciplinary environment, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
To carry out planned and reactive maintenance task to a high standard that is commensurate with the skills and experience for the role.
The post holder will be reporting, on a day to day basis, to the Estates Supervisor and maintenance managers.

The work will be both routine and/or non-routine in nature, requiring the post holder to be flexible, adaptable and proactive to provide a customer focused service and cover Trust properties. (and where the Trust operates a service level agreement to provide a service to 3rd parties).

Acts as the trusts Certified Person for Fire Door Maintenance carrying out repairs and inspections to fire doors and overseeing works carried out by in house and contract staff.
The post holder will remain aware of the effect and impact to the safety and comfort of patients/clients, staff and members of the public and the effect and impact to the environment resulting from their actions.
In addition there is a requirement to participate in overtime working for emergencies, and it may be necessary to attend work early or late in such circumstances.
The post holder will be required to participate in an on-call rota. The post holder will carry out a multi skilled function, this will include in addition to the post holders core specialist skills, mechanical and building trades on equipment, buildings, and mechanical services within their level of professional competence.
The post holder is expected to work alongside other trades where necessary to complete maintenance tasks within the department.
All work will be carried out to a high standard in terms of workmanship, quality, efficiency and health & safety.

Main duties of the job
- Undertake all Joinery works to all hospital property, internally and externally, to a high quality and acceptable craft standards and approved methods of working.
- Have the ability to interpret technical detailed manuals undertake fault diagnosis and solving of maintenance problems. Communicate technical knowledge to others particularly in the safe use of fixed woodworking machinery and other portable equipment.
- Undertake site inspection and surveys determine Plant, access, materials and tools requirements. Report any other defects.
- Use and operate the Estates CAFM computerised labour management system. Plan and prioritise own workload. Work within the scheme including completion of all works dockets noting amendments to work and feed back into the system accounting for a work times and monitoring of weekly hours worked on time sheet.
- Be conversant with and use all relevant fixed woodworking machinery within the joiners shop in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work act, PUWER Regulations 1998, Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005. COSHH Regulations 2002
- Diagnose, repair undertake fault finding and be conversant with specialist items of ironmongery and hardware, including locks digital locks and mortice locks, closers, door and floor springs, and window gear
- Undertake Building Planned Preventative Maintenance to include statutory fire door and window checks, and other patient related items bed side lockers etc..

- Qualified to City & Guilds Level 3 and/or relevant experience in a similar role within the building fabric trade such as site carpentry, building, painting & decorating, plastering etc.
- Must possess full driving licence

- Have a sound knowledge of safe working practices
