We are a supportive and collaborative Older People's Community Mental Health Team, seeking a Specialist Applied Psychologist/Highly Specialist Applied (e.g. Clinical) Psychologist to join us. The successful applicant will lead on and deliver psychological assessments, formulations and therapies for older people, families and carers within a CMHT that covers urban and rural areas in York and North Yorkshire.

The applied psychologist role is key to the provision of high-quality care for patients, carers and families within our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). Applied Psychology is highly valued in the team, Care Group and within the Trust, with good professional support .

We welcome applications from existing Band 8a or Band 7 Applied Psychologists (e.g. Clinical Psychologists) as well as newly qualified Applied Psychologists and individuals due to qualify from DClinPsy courses (or equivalent).

We are developing the range of psychological therapies we offer for complex emotional and relational needs, and want to support Diploma level training in specialist therapies (CBT or CAT).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessments, formulation and therapies with individuals, families and teams as part of an MDT approach, according to evidence-based pathways of care and in line with the Trust's commitment to partnership working with families and carers. Alongside direct clinical work, providing consultation, training and clinical supervision to other team members as well as trainee and assistant psychologists are integral to the role.

As a senior member of the team, the post holder will be expected to demonstrate good leadership skills in supporting MDT colleagues to work psychologically and use person-centred principles. The post holder will be a key member of a compassionate, collective leadership team within the CMHT. Innovation and engagement in research and development activity is actively encouraged.

This vacancy is open to either a newly qualified Psychologist / Psychological Therapist or an experienced Psychologist / Psychological Therapist with appropriate Job Description and banding being applied accordingly to the successful candidate. Successful candidates who are newly qualified Psychologists/Psychological Therapists will be expected to work towards the competencies of the higher band within an agreed time frame being regraded to the 8a role upon successful completion.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice - Band 8a
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
  • Trained in care co-ordination
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Registration with BPS
  • Post-graduate qualification showing evidence of supervised practice in an evidence-based psychological therapeutic model


Experience

Essential

  • Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and a range of clinical severity across a range of care settings or if applying at Band 7 experience of working within mental health
  • Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care as a care coordinator within the context of a multidisciplinary team.


Desirable

  • Experience of joint working with statutory, voluntary and private sector agencies


Knowledge / Skills

Essential

  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Communicate highly complex and highly sensitive information effectively, to a wide range of people
