We are looking for a Band 7 Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to join the West Berkshire Specialist Community Team based in Newbury.

We are an experienced team part of the wider West SCT teams which cover Wokingham, Reading and Newbury.

In this role you will hold a manageable, protected case load of young people living with complex, severe, and enduring mental health problems. You will work closely with them and their families to deliver therapeutic interventions and treatments as appropriate. As a result, you will find yourself working jointly with other professionals such as Children's social care.

For our team we are looking for clinicians with a keen interest in Child and Adolescent Mental Health, who are thoughtful and enjoy working in a team.

Main duties of the job

• provide comprehensive assessments and therapeutic interventions to young people and their families, as appropriate
• provide care coordination for young people open to the Service
• independently manage an appropriately sized caseload
• use supervision effectively
• work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and within a multi-agency system
• work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice
• maintain own continuing professional development and contribute to team professional development initiatives

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

• Registered Mental Health Nurse or Registered Social Worker or Qualified Systemic Family Therapist Masters level or Qualified Psychotherapist or Clinical or Counselling Psychologist or Occupational Therapist
• Registration with NMC or HCPC or other recognized professional body. PGDip CBT Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (IAPT)

Desirable

• A supervisory qualification in the relevant professional discipline.

EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Post-qualifying experience of undertaking comprehensive assessment of mental health needs, developing care plans, and offering appropriate support based on psychological formulation of presenting difficulties.
• Experience of working with service users with high-risk presentations and undertaking risk assessment and risk management plans.
• Experience of hard-to-reach diverse community groups and individuals with emerging complex needs, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities and safeguarding.
• Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment

Desirable

• Experience of working within mental health settings supporting children, adolescents, and their families.
• Experience of providing supervision or leadership to others.
• Experience of contributing to service improvement initiatives.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Essential

• Knowledge and skills to assess acute mental health crisis, and deliberate self-harm at Tier 3 levels.
• Demonstrates up to date knowledge of legislation and National strategies and requirements for CAMHS.
• Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
• Ability to motivate and inspire others and to support others to develop key competencies.
• Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers, and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
• Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non- professional groups.
• Ability to take clinical responsibility for patient care and treatment.
• Ability to work to timescales and comfortably cope in pressurised situations, applying practical problem-solving skills in everyday and complex situations
