An wonderful opportunity has arisen to join our pre-assessment team.
We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic band 5 nurse. You will be responsible for the delivery of care in the Anaesthetic Assessment Unit, as part of a consultant supported nursing team, undertaking pre-operative anaesthetic risk assessment of patients for elective surgery.
You will develop the skills to become an autonomous practitioner, able to obtain a thorough past medical history alongside a nursing assessment. You will request appropriate clinical investigations in line with national and Trust protocols and escalate any concerns to senior clinical colleagues, according to clear, established protocols and policies. You will provide a high level of communication by liaising with all appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team, specific to individual patient needs.
Main duties of the job
Previous pre-assessment experience, although desirable, is not essential. You will be supported in the development of skills necessary for comprehensive, individualised anaesthetic pre-assessment whilst maintaining a progressive attitude towards patient care. You will be required to be able to work independently and organise your own workload whilst being part of a wider team.
Assist in the planning of the pre-assessment clinics.
Work under the indirect supervision of a senior nurse.
Ensure implementation of workplace policies and procedures.
Research and undertake audit relevant to the field of pre-assessment.
Provide clinical advice and support to staff and patients within own level of competence.
Access, plan, implement, and evaluate holistic, high quality and individualised care which respects a patient's person, dignity and beliefs.
Maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Maintain and promote effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors.
Act as a mentor to students including teaching, assessing and upholding the philosophy of evidence based practice.
Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Trust Policies and Procedures.
To manage the clinic ensuring safe and effective patient care.
