Clinical Nurse Specialist - Paediatric Epilepsy
Are you passionate about supporting children, young people and their families living with a chronic health condition? Then how would you like to work as an Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist , in a dynamic RBH team based on the University of Reading, Whiteknights Campus? This is an exciting opportunity for a part time Band 7 Paediatric Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist to support and participate in the running of our service.
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated Paediatric Nurse to join our dynamic Epilepsy Team at RBH, as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (Band 6 developing or Band 7, depending on previous training and experience)

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be supported in developing specialist skills with a comprehensive training package including nationally recognised Paediatric Epilepsy Training. You will participate in joint consultant and nurse led clinics, where you will learn how CYP are clinically assessed, diagnosed and treatments discussed. You will also have the opportunity to attend the visiting Oxford Paediatric Neurology clinic.
At times you will work autonomously, so we are looking for someone who already possesses these skills, or has the confidence and commitment to develop these skills.
You will be working with the wider MDT including Consultants, Epilepsy CNS, Transition CNS, Keto dietitians, Psychologist and will be supported by a dedicated admin team. The whole team participate in service development, national audits, local audits and quips, and research.
You will be a valued member of the biweekly case discussion meetings, and monthly epilepsy team meetings.

Job responsibilities
Will be trained and supported to hold nurse led clinics, and first fit telephone clinics to develop yourown defined caseload
Will be responsible for completing and updating the epilepsy care plans for under 5s in our area, and liaising with other nursing teams and educational establishments
Able to communicate complex, sensitive information effectively and empathetically to patients and relatives.
Assesses, develops and implements evidence based specialist nursing care programmes, and advice for patients and relatives.
Work as an expert nurse in given area, acting as a resource for other interdisciplinary healthcare professions whilst maintaining a high profile in the clinical area, acting as a role model for good practice.
Working with professional groups and other agencies in both primary and secondary healthcare settings.
Assumes a central role in problem solving and service co-ordination to ensure patients and carers receive high standards of seamless quality care.
Works with non-specialist interdisciplinary practitioners to complement their care, and the quality of the service provided.
When trained, able to undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic procedures pertinent to specialist role.
Actively participates in interdisciplinary meetings.
Acts on clinical incidents pertinent to area, to reduce clinical risk.

- Registered Nurse - Child
- Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level/able to demonstrate evidence that is working at degree level/commenced degree
- ENB 998/ Slice, C& G 730 or equivalent
- Evidence of recent appropriate clinical practice in managing children and young people with constipation

- Advanced communication training

- Several years post qualification of which a considerable amount must be in speciality
- Working knowledge of current policies and documents relating to best practice for children and young people with epilepsy
