A great opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Trainer to join our Team, to provide the required fire safety training across the Trust.
The post holder will join a dynamic and skilled team which provides fundamental assistance to clinical and non-clinical teams in understanding and implementing all fire life safety legal and statutory requirements.
We are seeking individuals with a proven track record in training across a large complex workforce and estate, providing professional expertise and service. The successful candidate will have strong presentation skills and be able to provide assurance of compliance levels across the Trust.
Experience in the correct Standards, Regulations and Guidelines is essential.

All fire related training will be managed and conducted by the Fire Safety Trainer. They will be responsible for carrying out all fire safety training and providing data to demonstrate completed sessions.

Job description
Job responsibilities
The job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Conducting training sessions at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust training venues.
Conduct fire extinguisher training using the BULLSEYE training equipment.
Assisting the Fire Safety Team in producing training needs analysis information.
Assisting the Fire Safety Team in producing monthly/quarterly/annual reports on fire safety training for the Trust Board, Fire Safety Security Steering Group, Health & Safety Committee and DoH.
Responsible for the day-to-day management of fire safety training throughout West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust both acute sites and community and ensuring the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust statutory requirements are met.Assisting the Fire Safety Team in developing and continually monitor and improve the fire prevention and response systems as appropriate through feed-back from staff attending training. This is particularly important in areas of high fire risk.
Undertaking Fire Evacuation Drills in non-patient buildings and desktop exercises in patient areas where evacuations are not acceptable due to the risk to patients.
This post has a responsibility for the effectiveness of comprehensive fire safety training programme, for all disciplines of staff throughout the trust.
To undertake regular Training Needs Analyses to maintain quality and standards of training.
Contribute to West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts business continuity plans.
To contribute to the production of the annual plan and annual report and implement actions which arise in relation to training.
To assist in the attainment of Health Care Standards for fire safety management.
To understand and comply with West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts Constitution.
Provide training as and when required, which could sometime be outside of normal working hours due to staff shift patterns.
Assist with the negotiations with Hertfordshire Fire Brigade, (Health and Safety Executive) via the Health & Safety Manager and compliance team to ensure to ensure that West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust complies with Local Acts and regulations with regards to fire safety requirements.
To be able to keep calm under pressure and meet-time scales.
Ensure that training equipment, inventory of equipment, maintenance as required along with the purchase (via the Supplies Department) of necessary educational equipment is maintained.
Adhere to the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts Service Commitment Putting Patients First and always adopt a professional approach to customer care and apply the West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust values which are Commitment, Care, Quality.
To promote, engage and develop effective relationships with Service Users, Patients, Visitors and Carers, including day to day service provision, complaints, quality, performance audits/monitoring, as well as when undertaking user & patient satisfaction surveys.

- Staff responsibilities during a fire incident.
- Specialist roles (switchboard staff, estates staff, Fire Wardens, local security management specialist etc.).
- Review online training materials and documentation.
- Provide & maintain all records.
- Planning Quality & Improvement initiatives.
- Assist the Fire Manager with the trust fire department duties.
- Good communication skills.
