- To prioritise requests using expert clinical knowledge so that patient appointments can be made within an appropriate timescale, analyse clinical information and make judgements on the appropriateness of the examination with relevant specialist advice as necessary.
- Undertake a range of ultrasound examinations according to departmental protocols, adjusting technique as necessary according to patient condition.
- Ensure up to date expert knowledge of ultrasound equipment necessary for image optimisation.

- To work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering a high-quality ultrasound service

- To prioritise requests using expert clinical knowledge so that patient appointments can be made within an appropriate timescale, analyse clinical information and make judgements on the appropriateness of the examination with relevant specialist advice as necessary.
- Undertake a range of ultrasound examinations according to departmental protocols, adjusting technique as necessary according to patient condition.
- Ensure up to date expert knowledge of ultrasound equipment necessary for image optimisation.
- Offer expert opinion to clinicians to assist in patient management.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives.
- Perform a highly skilled ultrasound examination using a high level of manual dexterity to produce accurate diagnostic images for reporting.
- Formulate a report using evaluation skills in order to communicate ultrasound findings to the referring clinician, which may include recommendation for further investigations.
- Be willing to embrace change and learn new techniques outside of current scope of practice that may be required for future service developments after appropriate training.
- Assist in the development of departmental policies and procedures.
- Have a working knowledge of the departmental Radiology Information System and Picture Archiving and Communications Systems and be able to maintain patient records.
- Establish and maintain good communication with all staff groups, and liaise with other departments as necessary.
- To ensure the needs of patients are met and their privacy and dignity are respected while in the Imaging Department.
- To participate in the departmental audit programme, initiating new audits were appropriate and implementing change as necessary.
- To ensure adherence to the HCPC Code of Conduct.
- To recognise and respond sensitively, appropriately and professionally to individual patient, relative, carer and staff needs.
- To promote best clinical practice
- When necessary to use mechanical aids to lift and manoeuvre patients in accordance with the trusts moving and handling policy
- To undertake procedures as part of research projects
- Attend any relevant training courses necessary to ensure the effective delivery of the role and maintain personal development.
- Mentor and facilitate training of medical and other health professionals as required.
- Cascade clinical knowledge and expertise to other sonographers through presentations and training sessions
