Paediatric Outpatients Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse

We are recruiting for a Paediatric Outpatients Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse who shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.
Main duties of the job
Exercises leadership within the department, and supervises and co-ordinates the work of the team in the Magpie Outpatients Department
Takes responsibility for the development of nursing guidelines, practice and protocols within the Magpie Outpatient unit
Ensures that up to date information and resources are available for children and their families in a variety of languages. To ensure that children and their families who require interpreting services have access to these.
Be involved in orientating children and their families to the Magpie Outpatient Department and other departments within the hospital, as needed
Is aware of the spiritual, psychological and emotional needs of the child and their family and endeavours to meet these at all times
Help prepare children and their families for discharge from clinics by addressing any practical, emotional or psychological issues and ensuring that there are clear plans for the future care of the child

Reports to the Senior Sister with any concerns in relation to patient care, the environment, staffing or any thing that may affect the service as a whole to children and their families
Reports any accidents or incidents involving children, relatives and staff to the Senior Sister. Completes statements and incident form, reporting such incidents via the incident reporting system (Datix)
Reports any concerns to the Senior Sister or Matron, in relation to Safeguarding or child protection. Liases with Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children, Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children or other professionals as appropriate
Takes charge of the department and escalates concerns appropriately
Exercises leadership within the department, and supervises and co-ordinates the work of the team in the Magpie Outpatients Department
Responsible for organising and co-ordinating activity and distraction sessions for the children and families within the reception area
Responsible for researching, developing and participating in nurse led clinics for children and their families, utilising the multi professional team as appropriate
Responsible for the provision and maintenance of play facilities and activities within the clinic environment, in conjunction with the Hospital Play Specialist team
To actively encourage and participate in receiving feedback from parents / carers and children, where age appropriate.

Qualifications

- RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality
- Degree (health related) or equivalent qualification / training / experience
Knowledge

- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
- Knowledge of Safeguarding Babies, Children and Young People
- An understanding of audit and research based nursing practice
Experience

- Experience of teaching / assessing / supervising others in a clinical setting
